Component Development Engineer

We are now looking for a Component Development Engineer to join our team. The preferred location for the position is in Shanghai area or Suzhou area.

 

 Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Component Development Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and performance of components sourced from suppliers. This position involves close collaboration with component experts, R&D, product owners, sourcing and tendering teams, QC, and supplier development engineers. The Component Development Engineer will facilitate design reviews, document relevant information, and conduct technical assessment audits at supplier locations, primarily within the EU region. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing technologies and experience with various equipment and components used in the industry.

 

As Component development Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactive Support on Onboarding New Suppliers:
    • Focus on component quality assurance programs, including risk assessments and design reviews and developing ITPs.
    • Facilitate the integration of new suppliers into the company’s supply chain, ensuring they meet all necessary requirements.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with component experts, R&D, product owners, sourcing and tendering teams, QC, and supplier development engineers.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Facilitate Design Reviews:
    • Organize and lead design review sessions with cross-functional internal teams and external suppliers to discuss and finalize component designs.
    • Document relevant minutes of meetings (MOMs), datasheets, and specifications in the document management system for traceability.
  • Supplier Visits:
    • Conduct technical assessment audits at supplier locations, primarily within the EU region.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Possess a strong understanding of manufacturing technologies and experience with equipment such as compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and valves.
    • General knowledge of electrical equipment like motors, switch gears, and instrumentation used in gas industries, preferably for marine and onshore applications.
  • Technical Evaluation and Approval:
    • Lead the technical evaluation and approval process for new components from suppliers, ensuring they meet all required specifications and performance criteria.
  • Risk Assessment:
    • Familiar with technical risk assessment methods.
  • Root Cause Analysis:
    • Conduct technical root cause analyses (RCAs) in collaboration with suppliers to address any issues with component performance or failures.
  • Design Optimization:
    • Work closely with engineering and suppliers' manufacturing teams to ensure that component designs are optimized for manufacturability and align with overall product requirements.
  • Supplier Development:
    • Provide technical expertise and support to suppliers to improve their design and development capabilities.
  • Supplier Identification:
    • Collaborate with procurement and engineering teams to identify potential suppliers for new or existing components.
  • Technological Trends:
    • Monitor and evaluate technological trends and advancements that may impact component design and supplier capabilities.
  • Supplier Performance Metrics:
    • Assist in the development and refinement of supplier performance metrics to ensure continuous improvement in quality and efficiency.
  • Issue Resolution:
    • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve supplier-related issues impacting product quality or supply chain efficiency.
  • Supplier Audits:
    • Conduct supplier audits to assess compliance with quality management systems and identify areas for improvement.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in component development, supplier quality assurance, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing technologies and experience with equipment such as compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and valves.
  • General knowledge of electrical equipment like motors, switch gears, and instrumentation used in gas industries, preferably for marine and onshore applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct technical root cause analyses.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
  • Ability to travel to supplier locations, primarily within the EU region, for technical assessment audits.
  • Proficiency in using document management systems and maintaining traceability of documentation.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the marine or gas industry.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and supplier performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment methods and design optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of Welding, NDT, Painting
  • Knowledge of reading and understanding P&ID
