Design Engineer, 3D Modeling

We are now looking for a Design Engineer to join our competent team.
The preferred location for this position is Gdynia, Poland.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate with sales teams to support new build projects and conduct in-depth studies on alternative fuel systems, while staying up to date with the latest trends in marine electrification and sustainability. You will contribute to the development of 3D models for mechanical products and systems that align with Wärtsilä’s strategic goals for reducing emissions. Additionally, you will assist in creating 2D technical drawings and system diagrams that enhance communication among stakeholders and help visualize Wärtsilä’s decarbonization initiatives.
Your responsibilities will also include preparing feasibility studies and other engineering documentation, ensuring that all deliverables meet international standards and Wärtsilä’s internal guidelines for quality and functionality. Furthermore, you will evaluate ship structural designs to ensure they are compatible with mechanical systems developed in accordance with alternative fuel regulations and Wärtsilä’s broader sustainability strategy. The tasks can also be adjusted based on your individual skills and interests. You’ll be working as a part of the Integrated Systems & Solutions team with diverse expertise and this position reports to Team Leader 3D Modeling (Engineering) within Integrated Systems and Solutions.
Main requirements in this role are:
- Technical knowledge in ship design.
- Experience with CAD systems required to develop and analyse ship design documentation.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in shipbuilding or ocean engineering.
- More than 2 years’ experience in marine industry / Marine System engineering.
- Experience with any 3D software related to ship design processes.
- Fluent written and spoken English (including marine and technical vocabulary).
- Good communication, presentation and influencing skills.
- Strong collaboration skills, customer service mindset and team player with a willingness to work across organizational boundaries (teams and business lines).
- Passion for shipbuilding technology and a desire to make a significant impact in the marine industry.
- Willingness to learn and a proactive attitude toward professional development.
- Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to take active action in preparation of feasibility studies and other engineering tasks.
Skills might be an additional asset:
- Knowledge of classification societies rules and other maritime requirements for alternative fuels and new market trends in marine industry.
- Experience with NX/TC data handling.
- Experience with Cadmatic Outfitting/Hull modelling activities.
- Experience with ship structure design processes.
- Good communication skills in Polish.
