Design Engineer

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our dynamic Mechanical Engineering team of three within Integrated Systems & Solutions. In this role, you’ll collaborate across departments—from sales to innovation—to support cutting-edge projects focused on alternative fuels, hybrid systems, and electrification. The location for this position is Gdynia, Poland.

 

 

As Design Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Support the sales and development departments in the new build projects and other studies regarding of alternative fuel systems and newest market's trends in decarbonization and electrification of marine industry
  • Participate in preparation of feasibility studies, reports and other engineering documents which will follow general international standards and Wärtsilä guidelines in terms of content, quality and functionality
  • Perform evaluation of the ship's design developed based on alternative fuels regulations and Wärtsilä decarbonization strategy according to standards, guidelines and time schedule
  • Actively involved in training and application of the new market trends of alternative fuels and marine electrification
  • Be open to new challenges, especially related to decarbonization, hybridization and electrification of marine industry
  • Cooperate with other teams within IS&S and other Business Lines within Wartsila

 

 

Main requirements in this role are:

 

  • Strong technical knowledge in Ship integration, Marine systems and Interface identification
  • Knowledge of classification society regulations and other maritime institutions requirements regarding machinery and piping design alternative fuels, as well as emerging market trends in the maritime industry would be additional assets.
  • Fluent written and spoken English (including marine and technical vocabulary)
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in shipbuilding or ocean engineering
  • Good collaboration skills, customer service mindset and out of the box thinking team player with a willingness to work across organizational boundaries (teams and business lines)
  • Proactive attitude toward professional development and flexibility in a dynamic work environment
  • Approximately 3 years of experience in marine industry / Marine System engineering
  • Ability to handle a few projects simultaneously, work independently and collaborate with a multi-disciplined and international team
  • Very good skills in MS Office package and linked tools
  • Pro-user of 2D CAD software. Experience in using 3D software related to the design of pipelines and machinery systems on ships would be an additional asset
