Financial Controller

 

Are you a proactive and analytical finance professional ready to take full ownership of financial operations in a dynamic, international environment? Wärtsilä Gas Solutions is seeking a Financial Controller to lead the financial activities of a legal entity in Gdynia, Poland.

 

This is a unique opportunity to establish and lead the financial foundation of a newly carved-out business, taking full ownership of its financial operations and ensuring a smooth transition into an independent legal entity. Success in this role requires a strong command of local statutory reporting, tax and VAT regulations, and audit processes, combined with the ability to operate within a global corporate framework. You will be responsible for ensuring financial integrity, compliance and performance, while supporting strategic decision-making and business growth.

 

As a key member of the global finance team, you’ll thrive in this role by managing both local and international financial requirements, partnering with auditors and tax authorities and driving continuous improvement across financial processes.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead financial operations for the newly established legal entity, ensuring compliance with local regulations and Wärtsilä policies.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports in accordance with Polish statutory requirements.
  • Manage financial planning, forecasting, and analysis, including consolidation and variance analysis.
  • Monitor operational costs and identify opportunities for efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Support investment decisions through business case development, financial modelling and scenario analysis.
  • Oversee cash flow management, taxation and statutory compliance.
  • Ensure accurate VAT reporting and compliance with Polish tax regulations.
  • Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and tax authorities, ensuring smooth audit processes and timely responses.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and performance monitoring across the Gas Solutions Business Unit.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate financial policies and project controlling standards.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks in collaboration with project stakeholders.

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in company controlling with a strong analytical mindset.
  • Expertise from ERP and reporting systems (SAP, HFM, Qlikview, PowerBI preferred).
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and master new tools and systems.
  • Flexible and eager to grow in line with evolving business needs, while managing time pressure and tight deadlines.
