In-Situ Machining Service Engineer

We are looking for an In-Situ Machining Service Engineer to join our In‑Situ Machining department and Tool Center. We also welcome motivated entry-level candidates interested in developing a career in machining and field service.
The preferred location for this position is Genoa, Italy.
Your role and responsibilities
As part of the In-Situ Machining team, you will support both workshop and field service activities. Depending on your experience, you will receive training in machining, tooling, maintenance, and Wärtsilä's safety and quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:

Perform machining, maintenance, upgrades, and repair activities on Wärtsilä and customer equipment, both in the workshop and at customer sites.

Support global field service projects by preparing, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing tooling and equipment used for In-Situ Machining operations.

Carry out workshop activities including milling, fabrication, measurement, tooling maintenance, and equipment preparation for field assignments.

Manage and maintain tooling inventory, ensuring tools and measuring equipment are available, calibrated, and ready for use.

Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with Wärtsilä safety requirements, quality standards, and customer site procedures.

Perform preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, accuracy, and safe operation.

Prepare technical reports and complete time and expense documentation according to Wärtsilä standards.

Work closely with colleagues and customers to support project execution, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality service worldwide.
Requirements for the position

Technical high school background (e.g. Mechanical, Marine, Electrical vocational school or related fields).

Willingness to travel extensively in Italy or abroad (up to 80% of the working days).

Good knowledge of Italian and English.

Proven hands-on skills (both work and/or hobby related).

Strong problem-solving skills.

Good communication skills to collaborate with customers and internal teams.

Team-oriented mindset and ability to work in dynamic environments.

Motivation to learn, develop, and grow professionally.

Valid driving license (Category B).
As an ideal candidate you might also have…

Previous experience in machining, mechanical maintenance, field service, or workshop, is highly welcome.

Previous In-Situ Machining experience is highly recommended.

Basic knowledge of machining processes (milling, turning, measuring).

Familiarity with workshop tools, measuring instruments, and calibration activities.

Experience with reciprocating engines or industrial equipment.

Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.

The annual salary range in Italy for this role is 27.964 EUR – 37.994 EUR in accordance with the salary provisions in the applicable National Collective Labor Agreement for workers in the metalworking and plant installation industry (CCNL Metalmeccanico).
