Product Manager - Autonomous Vessels

We are now looking for a Product Manager – Autonomous Vessels to join our team.

 

Purpose of the role:

Wärtsilä Voyage possesses the full range of on board ship navigational, automation and coastal traffic control products and decision support AI. We believe that the future of safe and efficient shipping belongs to a semi- and autonomous transport and are searching for a strategically looking leader to consolidate existing and develop new product components into a productised Autonomous Vessel solution gaining commercial leadership on the new market. 

 

Through world-class Product Management practices, PMs are the Single Point of Authority of the Products & Solutions that they lead. Owning the end-to-end lifecycle of a product from our Autonomous Vessels portfolio, the Product Manager is the key figure within Voyage who connects the dots between the market and the business. Contributing to the product strategy and driving its execution through identifying and solving market problems that are urgent, impactful, and valuable to customers.

 

This position will be preferably based in Hamburg, St Petersburg, Helsinki, or Hørsholm.

 

Key responsibilities:

A Product Manager in Voyage acts as the ‘Mini-CEO’ of the Product. Running the product as if it was the own company sitting within a wider business. The Product Manager will collaborate with the wider business to understand a product inside out, while also aligning the business with their vision and purpose for the product, as well as -

 

  • Contributes into the company product portfolio strategy development.  
  • Executes the product strategy and vision, managing the product requirements across data, platform and software.
  • Collaborates with the navigation, automation and other adjacent Product Management teams for alignment the roadmaps towards Autonomous Vessel solution.   
  • Collaborates with the product development teams including design, finance, legal, comms and other internal teams as required, to deliver best-in-class products globally.
  • Need to comply and actively engage in the Product Development framework with its various milestones.
  • Develops in depth insights on market opportunities, having a deep understanding of our business and the competitive landscape.
  • Analyzes product profitability and product success metrics.
  • Prioritize the uses cases per market.
  • Pilot the roadmap of all sub components.
  • Develops pricing strategy and tactics, based on the brief from the Business.
  • Develops a forecast for the product, based on input from product marketing, projected sales and own experience.
  • Owns a product end-to-end, becoming a true expert in the product area, knowing all the key metrics of a product, possessing the expertise and confidence to be the single point of contact  for businesses at any stage in the product lifecycle.  
  • Use Root Cause Analysis methodologies to understand why users have trouble when using a product, and be able to provide solutions as a result.
  • Define and execute the Go-to-Market strategy, including regulation authorities.

Key requirements:

As an ideal candidate for this position you will have a BA/BS or MS in Engineering or Business

alongside the experience outlined below.

 

  • 10+ years’ relevant professional experience amongst which 4+ in a product role. Marine experience alongside exposure to the Tech and software industry is a must.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of Maps and Location-Based services preferred.
  • Ability to build & develop trustful professional relationships with ease across your business stakeholders and peers.
  • Can ensure accountability is held by all relevant parties and can also demonstrate the ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions, influence, and gain business by in, when pitching a new strategy or vision.
  • Possess the courage to challenge the status quo, own challenging assignments, and present different solutions to achieve better results.
  • Previous responsibility for owning the product roadmap, product performance, developing propositions, resolving product issues. You will also understand product creation framework and product life cycles.
  • Ability to collect relevant data and analyze it to produce recommendations and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Proven experience creating and capturing new ideas. Analyzing and building propositions for your product. Producing variants for different target market segments, buyer and user profiles.
  • Previous experience successfully defining and executing Go to Market strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide fact-based recommendations.
  • Self-starter with ability to lead large scale projects.
  • Fluency in English is a must.
  • Travelling worldwide at least on a monthly basis.
