Propeller Repair Mechanic

Welcome to Wärtsilä UK! For our Metallurgic Repair shop in Glasgow, we are looking for a mechanic to strengthen our team.

As a propeller repair mechanic, it is your responsibility to repair all kinds of ship propellers, whether it is a fixed blade propeller or a single blade, you ensure that our customer sails again as soon as possible. You will work internationally on construction sites throughout the whole world and in our workshop in Glasgow you will not do this alone, together with professionals such as Propulsion field service engineers, divers, service coordinators and so on, we will deliver what we promise.

How are you going to do that? You have to understand metal, weld it, shape it, smooth it until it's as good as new.

For each assigned project, you can use Wärtsilä manuals, drawings and fixed measurement/repair procedures. For experienced Technicians, we can offer the opportunity to work independently on your own assigned projects. Junior/trainee mechanics are supervised by one of our experienced colleagues.

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You are responsible for the safety of yourself and others,
  • Remove and handle propeller blades safely, so attach and move loads,
  • Make sure that all tools used are in good and safe condition,
  • Welding, grinding, heat treatment and other metalworking activities.
  • Keeping your work environment clean and safe

What do we expect from you?

  • Willing to travel around the world every now and then,
  • Not a 9 to 5 mentality but a can-do mentality,
  • You have the right MIG/MAG welding experience,
  • (preferably) Have experience in welding CuNiAl,
