Senior Automation System Engineer (m/f/d)

To us, Autonomous shipping is not about visions of unmanned vessels or fully automated port operations. At least not just. While everybody is out there speculating about where “Autonomy” might eventually possibly perhaps lead us, we’re taking a slightly different approach: We’re taking action and explore what we can do with autonomy today. Our big advantage on this journey: a stepwise approach. We are establishing a variety of solutions that range from “simple” decision support at one end to fully unmanned vessels on the other. With this, we don’t have to speculate about what might eventually be, but can already harness the power of “Autonomous Potential” to create benefits right here and now. For a safer, more efficient and sustainable today. And to set the foundation for a bright tomorrow.

To drive and utilise this potential we are now looking to recruit a Senior Automation System Engineer to join our Autonomy Engineering team in Hamburg.

Purpose of the role:

In this role you will shape the monitoring and control of ship systems for remotely controlled and autonomous ships.

Main responsibilities:

  • Design and develop the electrical system architecture and automation system functions for ship systems which enable ships to sail remotely controlled or autonomously

  • Ensure reliability and security as well as compliance of the above with rules and regulations

  • Engage with regulators where rules and regulations in this domain are still being shaped

  • Perform testing in simulation and through physical trials onboard ships

  • Work with customers to understand their requirements and cooperate internally with product management and technical teams to guide realization of novel ship concepts

Experience we are looking for:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Marine engineering or similar.

  • Onboard professional experience with ship monitoring and control systems

  • Good understanding of networks and cyber security onboard ships

  • Knowledge of the maritime regulatory regime

  • Experience with predictive maintenance, AI-based techniques and/or software development expertise will be a benefit.

  • Structured, self-responsible and solution-oriented working attitude

  • Willingness to take over responsibility, distinct analytic skills and communication competence

  • Project Management skills.
