Project Controller

Welcome to Wärtsilä! We are looking to recruit a Project Controller for our Controlling department in the Voyage Solutions business unit.


Your job description:


As a successful Project Controller you are an integral part within the project organization for big segment projects to provide comprehensive support to the Project Manager and to secure a successful commercial and financial project execution. This position creates a high degree of transparency of financial and economic project developments and generates high-quality analysis and reports to the Marine Solutions Voyage Management Team


We are looking for an energetic, ambitious, enthusiastic and technically interested controller to join the team in our Wärtsilä SAM Electronics office in Hamburg. 


What are your main tasks and responsibilities?


  • Provide guidance and support in all commercial matters to Project Manager and Project Team during the life cycle of the project
  • Project representative to customer for all commercial questions and concerns
  • Working with the Project Manager to prepare the project budget calculation and prepare cash flow analysis and forecasting
  • Secure compliance of commercial matters to internal Policies, Regulations and Approval Matrix
  • Create and process customer orders in SAP and ensure accuracy and up-to-date project plan in ERP system
  • Perform project related period-end closing activities in an accurate and timely manner (contact to auditors)
  • Process requests for purchase orders in line with project calculation and specific project T&Cs
  • Manage Estimate to Complete (cash flow, cost, revenue, performance)
  • Work closely with Accounting and Project Managers to ensure milestone invoicing is done in accordance with customer contract and invoices are issued in line with cash flow projections
  • Monitor payment receipts and support dunning process
  • Proactively address risks and opportunities and support Project Manager at claim management, including negotiations with customers and suppliers
  • Preparing financial and management reports
  • Participate in project related review meetings
  • Assist in tracking project specific and company-wide Key Performance Indicators (“KPI’s”)


What do we expect from you?


  • Preferably you hold a Masters or Bachelors degree in a relevant area (engineer / commercial), or equivalent
  • More than 3 years experience in Project Management or Project Controlling in international operating companies, preferably in project-/plant construction evironment
  • Entrepreneurial thinking and result-oriented principle of operations
  • Cooperative and self dependent way of working
  • Good conflict management and negotiating skills
  • Readiness of mind, analytical and process oriented mindset
  • Number-minded, together with the ability to interpret results and to critical question those
  • German and English language (written and spoken)
  • Structured and practical way of working with can-do attitude
  • Excellent presentation and written skills
  • Good skills in MS office tools and preferably also SAP
