Sales Expert Vessel Energy Optimization (m/f/d)

We are now looking for a Sales Expert Vessel Energy Optimization (m/f/d) to join our team


As Sales Expert Vessel Energy Optimization, your work will focus on these responsibilities:


  • Sales & Business Development through domain expertise in vessel energy optimization
    • Realization of Order Intake in the region for designated solutions.
    • Meet (potential) customers across the assigned Region, close business using domain expertise. 
    • Support (potential) customer with (pre) tender requisition, using Wärtsilä Voyage specifications.
    • In close cooperation with the Sales Managers, (support) the creation of proposition/ quotations /response to tenders and conduct negotiations to support closing deals based on company strategy and management guidelines.
    • To ensure a good chance of winning Tenders, the SE scrutinizes RFI, RFQ, conduct site surveys and Wärtsilä Voyage Project Bid documentation, costing, scope including advise on competitive landscape, winning price, bid/ no bid decisions, etc.
    • Use Strategic Selling Techniques to engage (potential) customers towards Wärtsilä Voyage on multi departmental and management levels. Develop relations. 
    • Sell One Wärtsilä Voyage.


  • Support Account Management
    • The SE is the key lead in the Region in keeping existing customers up to date with new developments regarding the assigned domain. The goal is to secure upsell, system upgrades and continued long term relationships. This can be achieved via seminars, webex or planned trips in specific territories (coordinated with the Sales manager).
    • Support and review technical queries from customers and help positions potential solutions to the problem. Escalate within the organization when necessary.
    • Work closely in a (regional) sales team with Sales Coordinators and Sales Managers as well as the Business Development Manager for Optimization products.


  • Reporting
    • Strong CRM Management
    • Timely reporting using the correct formats to keep the organisation informed
    • Contributing to regional plans, budgets and promotion plans


  • Product Support
    • Provide market intelligence and product improvements to Solutions.
    • Represent Wärtsilä Voyage at Industry Exhibitions, (Partner) conferences, etc.
    • Supports Solutions/ R&D with product testing/ product review where applicable.
    • Support customer trials, field tests and POC’s with product expertise and positioning to the customer.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:


  • Higher Education (Master / Bachelor) in technical domain
  • 5 years of sales experience in the maritime sector or B2B sales
  • Domain expertise and the ability to explain in a consultative way to the potential customer is required
  • Expertise in vessel energy optimization topics: vessel voyage management, technical (engineering) vessel optimization.
  • Solution based / Strategic selling methodology or willingness to learn it
  • Public speaking/ Presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of Office (essential), ERP and CRM (advantage) applications.
  • Driving license
  • Ability and willingness to travel (national and internationally), estimated to 30-40%
  • Eager to sell, entrepreneur style, able to close deals
  • Strong work ethic
  • Autonomous to fulfil tasks
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Open to new technology and environment that is in a constant change
  • Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills, social and outgoing
  • International network and cross-cultural understanding is an advantage
