Senior Field Service Engineer - Advanced Repair Technologies (m/f/d)

We are looking for our next Senior Field Service Engineer – Advanced Repair Technologies (m/f/d) reporting to our Hamburg office.

 

 

This role provides senior-level technical expertise and leadership in field service execution, with a specialized focus on advanced repair technologies such as In‑Situ Laser Cladding and robotic-assisted repair solutions. Ensures safe, high-quality and reliable service delivery while mitigating technical and warranty risks and maintaining high customer satisfaction.

 

 

What you will do:

 

  • Acts as senior technical expert during complex field service assignments, providing guidance, decision-making and problem resolution in challenging operational environments.
  • Leads and coordinates assigned teams during work execution, including task planning, on-site supervision and technical validation of results.
  • Provides specialized expertise in robotic control systems and In‑Situ Laser Cladding / laser welding processes, including setup, commissioning, process monitoring and troubleshooting in marine and power plant environments.
  • Executes and supervises advanced repair, service and commissioning activities for Wärtsilä products (2‑Stroke, 4‑Stroke, Propulsion, Automation, In‑Situ Machining, Turbochargers), both onboard vessels and on land-based power plants.
  • Evaluates repair strategies from a technical integrity and warranty risk perspective, including root cause analysis and long-term reliability considerations.
  • Interacts with customers at a senior technical level, leading technical discussions, progress reviews and solution alignment meetings during execution.
  • Ensures execution in line with Wärtsilä processes, safety standards and quality requirements to achieve targeted time, cost and performance outcomes.
  • Provides structured feedback to sales, engineering, design, purchasing and installation functions, contributing to continuous improvement of repair concepts and service offerings.
  • Identifies opportunities to promote advanced repair solutions and spare parts through professional customer interaction and accurate field documentation.
  • Acts as a role model for safety culture and compliance, actively maintaining and promoting Wärtsilä’s high HSE standards.

 

 

To suceed in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a comparable technical discipline, combined with extensive hands‑on field service experience.
  • Proven senior-level experience with robotic automation systems, including understanding and handling of robot controllers, interfaces and automated process workflows.
  • Strong practical expertise in In‑Situ Laser Cladding and/or laser welding applications, including process parameter optimization, metallurgical considerations and repair strategy assessment.
  • Ability to analyze complex component damage mechanisms, perform root cause assessments and define technically and economically sustainable repair solutions.
  • Solid expertise in Wärtsilä control and automation systems (e.g. WECS, UNIC C1/C2/C3, LCS, UCS or comparable systems).
  • Ability to read, understand and modify electrical, automation and mechanical schematics.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and German; additional languages such as Dutch or Polish are an advantage.
  • Strong leadership mindset with a structured, quality-driven and customer-oriented approach.
  • High willingness to travel worldwide and work independently in demanding field environments.
