General Machinist (x6)

General Machinist

Due to relocation of precision manufacturing machines within the UK network at Wartsila Defence Solutions we are looking for multiple Machinists to join the growing team in Havant.

These Machinist positions will be embedded in the Face cell team using milling and turning CNC machines, Machining composite material faces from raw billets to finished components.


What will I be asked to do?:

  • Ability to work to processes with given instruction to manufacture seals and bearing products to high specifications.
  • Working to Engineering Drawings.
  • Working with Castings and various metals.
  • CNC Programming of parts including program generation, Editing and Prove Outs.
  • Tooling set up
  • Use of hand and power tools.
  • Use of overhead cranes.
  • Use of measuring equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Clear communications and hands on approach with a strong work ethic.
  • Drive improvements as part of continuous improvement culture.
  • Working in a safe manner in line with the companies Health and Safety policy.
  • Maintain working area to a good standard as part of 5S implementation.
  • Ensure quality is maintained and follow processes for area are correctly implemented to company standards.
  • Carry out tasks in accordance with set process times to meet deadlines.
  • Have a flexible approach and at times move onto other disciplines within skill set.
  • Help with skills flex training and cross train others when required.

Desired skill:

  • Experience of working in an Engineering environment.
  • Ideally Apprentice served
  • Fanuc and heidenhaim Programming Experience
  • Familiar with Turning and Milling techniques.
  • Understand Health& Safety environment/procedures.
  • Read and understand Engineering drawings.
  • Manual Handling
  • Slinging and Lifting
  • Good communicator with all levels of business (written & verbal).

What do you need to shine?

  • A HND/HNC Apprenticeship served qualification within mechanical engineering is advantageous.
  • Background within mechanical fitting.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
  • Clear communicator.
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written.
  • Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidayte must be eligibale to achive base line security clearance.
