Growth Development General Manager (Ref 35067)

Wartsila Defence Solutions Limited (WDSL) are looking for a Growth Development General Manager to join our forward-looking team focussed on Naval projects.

WDSL is evolving from an original equipment manufacturer of shaft line equipment, into an integrator of complete submarine/surface fleet shaft line solutions in line with its Strategic growth plan. WDSL sits within our Shaft Line Solutions (SLS) business as an OEM solutions provider.

This development role will focus on an existing pipeline of opportunity and will allow WDSL to develop projects, bid and convert the identified project opportunities. You will also work to identify qualified opportunity to further expand our footprint globally and introduce technology solutions to the market.

The position is a permanent full-time role, is part of the WDSL Leadership Team and reports directly to the Managing Director. Ideally, we are looking for our new colleague working from our preferred location in our Havant facility, but we would consider hybrid working for the candidate with the correct experience who is able travel to the facility and customer interactions as required.

You will be tasked with provided the following services to WDSL, SLS Sales and SLS Marketing organisations:

  • Tools, materials and training to promote the WDSL solution portfolio.
  • Support and guide SLS Marketing for WDSL portfolio promotion.
  • Project management throughout projects' lifecycles.
  • Market analysis for current and pipeline Naval programmes.
  • Key stakeholder network mapping (governments, Navies, Naval Shipyards and prime contractors).
  • Current capability understanding (and recommendations to the business as opportunities/gaps emerge).
  • Development of complex/non-standard qualified opportunities, in collaboration with SLS Sales and distributors/agents.
  • SLS Naval growth strategy guidance.
  • Work in harmony with the SLS Naval Segment Sales Manager.
  • Lead the WDSL Growth Team – this role will continue to grow over time.

Working within our matrixed structure you will be an excellent communicator who is able to influence at all levels. The successful candidate will be able to work in a structured way to create a library of tools and methodologies to support the business in its professional bids, tenders and contractual discussions in a timely, coordinated manner.

You will need to form strong relationships and collaborate with the wider
organisation to identify and qualify the opportunity, bringing various parties together.
