Wartsila Defence Solutions Ltd in Havant is currently looking to recruit a Project Engineer to join our team. This crucial hire for the team will support development and delivery of bespoke customer orders for propulsion shaftline equipment.

What will I be doing daily?

Your main responsibility as a Senior Project Engineer is the development of statements of work, plans and budgets, and overseeing the design, testing and supply of propulsion equipment.


What you will be doing?

  • Oversee a propulsion solution according the customer requirements & defined needs.
  • Generate customer specific solutions, with input into specifications and quotations according to needs of Sales
  • Participate & assist the team in technical and commercial meetings with customers where required
  • Preparing cost calculations according to directives and agreed targets
  • Evaluate technical and environmental risks of the solution.
  • Coordinate daily activities and urgent requests with relevant colleagues in order to find satisfactory solutions

To be successful in this role, we expect you to demonstrate:

  • As a person you are driven, open-minded and self-motivated.
  • You have a drive & desire for creating stakeholder centric value propositions, and are able to identify and develop both explicit and implicit requirements.
  • You are eager to work with complex systems and integration reacting to manufacturing/engineering/installation feedback holding a continuous improvement mindset.
  • You easily interact with people from all organisational levels and have strong presentation and communication skills able to rationalise large amounts of data to drill down to provide clear risks/benefits and opportunity sets.
  • You have fluency in written and oral English.
  • You lead by example.

We believe the ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • Ideally 5 - 10 years’ engineering experience in a marine/aerospace/engineer environment.
  • Experienced in interfacing between various stakeholder functions within complex projects
  • Strong project management skills either formally or vocationally gained
  • Proven team work and ability to exercise initiative where required.


Note due to the military applications our products support, any applicant must be able to satisfy the requirements of a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) as a minimum clearance requirement of this role
