What you will be doing

 

Wartsila Defence Solutions (WDSL) is looking for a Purchasing Team Leader to lead a small team of purchasers to achieve agreed targets in line with the output plan.

 

As the Purchasing Team Leader, you will also manage communication between the internal departments to ensure quality of supply and on time delivery in line with the output plan, as well as identifying and driving improvements and facilitating excellent supplier relations.

 

Working closely with Manufacturing and Finance teams to maximize efficiencies. this role will be responsible for developing the ways of working, as well as the individuals in the team. When needed, you are expected to step-in and participate in, or lead, project specific negotiations. We also expect you to inspire the team to perform at their optimum and reach the organisation’s targets.

 

As the Purchasing Team Leader, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational Procurement team at Havant site.
  • Responsible for the tactical execution of both direct and Indirect purchasing.
  • Manage day to day team issues ensuring escalation where necessary.
  • People development and driving the growth of skills and knowledge within the procurement team.
  • Supporting the Supply Chain Manager in meeting the supply chain KPIs and initiatives.
  • Ensuring all requests for purchase are actioned in a timely manner and the department delivers the required service to all internal customers.
  • Negotiating and placing Purchase Orders (POs), ensuring reporting and delivery promises are maintained by vendors with information communicated to the purchaser and any other stakeholders.
  • Managing relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Alongside the Supply Chain Manager, consolidate and leverage direct and indirect spend. Negotiate and manage Strategic Supply Agreements (SSAs) with key suppliers, to provide commercial benefit to the WDSL business.
  • Reviewing and negotiating payment terms.
  • Managing supplier performance to ensure output is in line with SLAs and KPIs.
  • Proactively manage the performance and development of the Purchasing Team.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • Previous experience of working in a purchasing environment, including being able to demonstrate the use of best practice
  • Strong Manufacturing experience
  • Previous SAP MRP experience.
  • The ability to communicate well with others and encouraging others in the team to do the same is essential.
  • Proven leadership, decision making, and organisational skills are a must
  • Ability to interrogate data to identify problems and action improvement activities.
