Senior Sales Proposal Engineer

Wärtsilä Defence Solutions Ltd (WDSL) is looking for a Senior Sales Proposals Engineer for its Customer Experience team.

 

This role will support the larger, more complex opportunities, specialising in new build naval projects for equipment and shaftline solutions.

 

The position is permanent, and the location is Havant, UK 

 

As a Senior Sales Proposals Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

 

  • Manage enquiries from Wärtsilä Global Shaft Line Solutions (SLS) sales teams and others to identify, scope and deliver compelling, timely and profitable proposals for equipment and shaft line solutions for naval customers.
  • Working with other internal functions, including Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain, to develop robust and timely solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Creating quotations and high-quality sales proposals for Equipment and shaft line package solutions, including cost models, commercial propositions, margin calculations and technical scope.
  • Review of proposed Terms & Conditions, seeking legal advice as required.
  • Securing Management approval for all proposals, including preparation and presentation of opportunities to senior SLS management.
  • Work within WDSL project or bid teams to provide required commercial support to the larger, more complex opportunities.


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

 

  • The ideal candidate will hold a technical background, with education in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Business Administration, or similar, however experience and a willingness to learn will compensate for a lack of formal engineering qualifications.
  • Experience from sales work will be considered an advantage, as will knowledge of Wärtsilä SLS’s products and services.
  • Good business and commercial understanding and good communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • An understanding of contracts and the commercial and operational aspects that need consideration.
  • Be a team player with the ability and willingness to also work independently in a systematic and structured way.
  • Take responsibility for your work and take the initiative to secure the completion of your tasks.
  • Fluent spoken and written English, written and spoken are required since we work with customers both locally and globally.
  • A major part of your work will be done utilizing PC and different applications such as SAP, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Teams, etc - experience with these systems or similar systems is an advantage


In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers, although most of the meetings are held virtually.
