Communications Specialist, Media Relations (parental leave cover)

We are looking for a Communications Specialist, Media Relations with the main responsibilities in building and nurturing media relations, creating storylines and media pitches for chosen topics, planning and executing media events, as well as monitoring and reporting on media visibility. This is a temporary position covering a nine-month parental leave, starting in July 2025. The location for this position is Helsinki, Finland. We offer a possibility to hybrid remote work. 

 

Your role and responsibilities: 

 

As a Communications Specialist, Media Relations your work will include working on company press releases with various internal stakeholders, monitoring media visibility and identifying pitching opportunities, creating content for media with supporting background documents, and organizing media meetings. You’ll be working as a part of the Corporate External Communications team with diverse expertise, and report to the Head of External Communications. 


Key responsibilities in the position: 

 

  • Editing, proof-reading, and publishing press releases with Cision PR Software platform; developing and maintaining the corporate press release process
  • Daily/monthly/quarterly media monitoring, including maintaining and creating Meltwater searches and reports up to date
  • Building and fostering media relations, primarily in Finland and Sweden
  • Keeping a pulse on the latest trends and discussion topics in media, identifying opportunities for joining ongoing conversations in the media and creating targeted media pitches for those
  • Having a journalistic view on Wärtsilä activities and identifying story opportunities
  • Working closely with e.g. social media team, business communications teams, investor relations and other internal stakeholders for the best results

 

Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have: 

 

  • At least 3 years of work experience, either in journalism, communications, public relations or similar
  • Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of media’s way of thinking and working
  • Excellent English & Finnish skills, both written and verbal (writing, editing, and proof-reading). Swedish skills is an asset
  • Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills to collaborate with colleagues, external stakeholders, media, and partners
  • Creative and collaborative; have an eye for detail and work well under pressure
  • Interest in technologies is an asset
