We help our partners to accelerate their decarbonisation journeys through our market-leading technologies and power system modelling expertise. These cover decarbonisation services, future-fuel enabled balancing power plants, hybrid solutions, energy storage and optimisation technology, including the GEMS Digital Energy Platform.
Did you know Wärtsilä has delivered 79 GW of power plant capacity and more than 130 energy storage installations in 180 countries around the world?
In this fast changing world of energy, we are constantly on the lookout for future-oriented talent to join our team and to work towards enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services - together. Want to join the ride?
Join us at the heart of Wärtsilä Energy’s digital transformation. We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Lead to ensure that Energy’s data is trusted, compliant, and ready to power our digital products, analytics, AI, and autonomous operations capabilities.
The preferred location for this role is Helsinki, Finland, but other locations in Finland can be discussed. We offer the possibility of hybrid working.
Your role and responsibilities
As our Data Governance Lead, you will turn Wärtsilä’s data governance principles into everyday practice across Energy’s lifecycle from product design and project delivery to services and power plant operations. Your work ensures that our data is high-quality, well-defined, discoverable, and compliant with evolving regulation.
As our Data Governance Lead, you will:
- Drive Wärtsilä’s data governance framework and operating model in Energy Business
- Ensure the adoption of data domains, ownership, steward roles, and responsibilities with network across Energy business units and functions
- Define and maintain data standards, definitions, metadata and quality rules
- Drive data quality management, including KPIs, dashboards, and issue follow-up
- Act as a coach and mentor for data owners, stewards, and governance teams across Energy, building a strong and scalable data governance community
- Define and track what “good data governance” looks like for Energy, and make progress measurable and visible
- Ensure compliance with EU Data Act, GDPR, cybersecurity policies, and Wärtsilä data directives
- Collaborate with the Principal Data Architect to align governance with technical architecture
- Support the Head of Data Engineering & Analytics in ensuring all data products follow governance requirements
- Work with Product Lifecycle Management, SAP, Salesforce and operational data teams to harmonise business-critical data
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Experience and mindset:
- Solid experience in data governance, data quality, MDM, or data management in a complex organisation
- Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong understanding of data lifecycle and cross-functional data flows
- Experience in operationalising governance frameworks
- Familiarity with GDPR, EU Data Act, and data compliance
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- A collaborative, structured, and pragmatic working style
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with PLM, SAP, Salesforce or operational/IoT data
- Experience leading cross-functional change through influence rather than formal authority
- Experience from energy, manufacturing, construction or asset-heavy industries
- Familiarity with data platforms (e.g., Databricks)
- Background in process digitalisation or business architecture
Why you and us?
We at Wärtsilä believe in empowerment, ownership and taking responsibility of our work. We support each other’s growth, and co-creation is the true basis of our innovation. We have courage to see opportunities and take initiative.
You’ll build the governance foundation that enables Energy’s digital future, influence business and technology teams, work with motivated experts globally, and contribute to Wärtsilä’s mission of enabling a 100% renewable energy future.
