General Manager, Business Development Parts Services

We are now looking for a General Manager (GM), Business Development to join our Product Marketing & Customer Intelligence function in Marine Power Parts Services business unit. In Parts Services, we are accountable for sales, order, and delivery of spare parts as well as the development of spare parts offerings. We are passionate about helping Customers to execute maintenance intervals and recover from unexpected maintenance needs with a complete range of spare parts for 4-stroke engines, propulsion, turbochargers, and auxiliary systems. Parts Services is a global team of around 900 professionals located in over 30 countries.

 

As a GM Business Development, you will be a key member of the Product Marketing & Customer Intelligence function focused on creating new business opportunities for Parts Services. You will lead a team of Business Development Managers who are managing the portfolio of ideas for product development and the related stakeholder communication within the defined process. You will have high interaction with Product Managers as part of the internal Wärtsilä SODL (Service Offer Delivery Launch) process and establish relationships for benchmarking & development with other Business Development teams within Marine Power. You will need strong negotiation skills to manage internal prioritization and be able to identify the true opportunities whilst managing expectations. In this position, you are reporting to Director, Product Marketing & Customer Intelligence.  The preferred location for this position is Helsinki, Finland but we are also open for any other main Wärtsilä location within Europe.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leading the Business Development team to ensure a constant flow of ideas & concepts through internal idea generation as well as analyzing external factors & trends
  • Establish competitor and market intelligence as base for new opportunities development
  • Support the development of the product roadmap with Product Management
  • Leading process from idea generation and screening, and case preparation to product development
  • Coaching & developing of your team of Business Development Managers
  • Collaboration with key stakeholders in other functions and business units for business development as well as customers.
  • Leading market testing for new business development ideas and concepts (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Development of offering development process to ensure value creation 

 
Main requirements:

  • MSc or equivalent degree in economics, marketing or engineering
  • Broad business perspective and minimum 5-7 years’ experience of marine business 
  • Strong skills in marketing research, market testing and hypothesis validation
  • Strong understanding of marine market environment, trends and customers’ needs
  • Excellent analytical skills, financial understanding and ability to create and oversee business cases as well as facilitating the internal SODL (Service Offer Delivery Launch) process 
  • Previous experience from process and business case development is appreciated
  • Readiness to build a network within the marine industry to drive competitor and market intelligence, existing network seen as a benefit
  • Strong communication and presentation skills  
  • Ability to negotiate priorities and manage expectations with involved stakeholders
  • Customer oriented and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent spoken and written English
