Head of Edge Solutions

Digital Product Development (DPD) develops digital products for Wärtsilä Marine Power, Marine Systems and Energy. DPD uses a common technology stack to generate insights from operational data,

to make for example predictive maintenance or emissions efficiency optimization products such as Wärtsilä Expert Insight. DPD is not a support function, it belongs to a P&L organization dedicated to

increase the value for customers during the lifecycle of their assets.


As Head of Edge Solutions your primary task is to lead the development of Wärtsilä edge devices and edge applications. In this role you will have an end-to-end impact, from crafting the strategy to

leading the development of edge solutions needed by Wärtsilä to deliver value through digital products. Edge solutions include a vast range of different hardware and software functionalities, such as

data collection, exchange, encryption, as well as applications running on the edge (i.e., at the site, where connectivity is at times either limited or not an option). 

You are someone who wants to make a tangible impact in the transformation towards zero emissions leveraging on digital technologies.

We are looking for an experienced professional with a leadership track record of successful IT/edge/IoT solutions developed and implemented, preferably in industrial domains.

The ideal candidate has a visionary mind, influencing skills, and ability to translate these into tangible execution.


As Head of Edge Solutions, you will be part of the DPD leadership team.




As the DPD teams are concentrated in Finland and the Netherlands the preferred location for this permanent role would be at our office in Helsinki or Vaasa (Finland), or Drunen (Netherlands).

The position reports to the Director, Digital Product Development.


Your main responsibilities:

  • Lead the development teams focusing on edge devices and applications supporting Wärtsilä Marine Power, Marine Systems and Energy digital products and lifecycle services
  • Ramp-up solution architecture competence and capacity to support Wärtsilä sales teams in strategic opportunities 
  • Proactively craft the strategy of existing and future edge solutions in strong cooperation with business units and group level activities
  • Establish portfolio lifecycle management practices and steer it for all edge solutions needed to enable our digital products, across Wärtsilä Marine Power, Marine Systems and Energy
  • Lead the adoption of international standards on data and cybersecurity. Influence the formation of international standards whereas valuable for the business
  • Influence and educate peers and colleagues on the value of edge solutions for Wärtsilä and its customers
  • Contribute actively to Wärtsilä’s digital strategy



  • You have solid and tangible technical foundations - advanced degree (e.g., M.Sc.) in computer science or information technology engineering, with experience in deep tech agile development organizations 
  • You have led it successfully before  - track record of successful development and implementation of IT/edge/IoT solutions, both hardware and software, preferably in industrial domains 
  • You know how to deal with a demanding corporate setting - Product Ownership background with 5+ years of experience leading digital products development in complex corporate settings, with multiple stakeholders and emerging market requirements
  • Agile is your working culture and leadership style - Experience in leading agile teams in an international and global environment as well as substantial experience as business management team member
  • Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-motivated with demonstrated passion for excellence
  • Strong drive, people management, influencing, and communication skills also at C-level
  • Fluency in English is a must
