Wärtsilä Energy Storage Business is looking for a dynamic professional for the position of Manager, Head of Strategic Sourcing to join in our energetic Supply Management team.



This position is located in Helsinki, Vaasa or Turku, Finland or Herndon, US.


  • For the global Energy Storage supplier base, the Manager, Head of Strategic Sourcing is accountable to implement Sourcing strategies and action plans agreed with relevant stakeholders to meet global sourcing needs and requirements of Wärtsilä Energy Storage business

Main Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure that Quality, Cost, Lead Time, Delivery Reliability and Agreement Coverage targets are met for Energy Storage global supplier base. 
  • Develop strategic sourcing capability within the team to meet Business Lines requirements (i.e. suppliers’ market analysis, suppliers’ scouting process, capacity management)
  • Secure agreements coverage, price list coverage, supplier capacity and availability for Energy Storage demand of direct materials.
  • Develop and execute Strategic Sourcing action plans in coordination with key stakeholders like Product Teams to meet business targets.
  • Develop strategic sourcing capability within the team to meet Business Lines requirements (i.e. suppliers’ market analysis, suppliers’ scouting process, capacity management)
  • Ensure execution of Cost reduction initiative for Energy Storage business in coordination with Product Teams.
  • Ensure compliance to Wartsila sourcing and purchasing policy.
  • Enhance collaboration and teamwork with relevant functions in ES and continuously improve the sourcing process
  • Lead, coach and mentor the team. Develop strong sense of belonging and team spirit


  • Academic degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or Economics
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Strategic Sourcing or in Procurement with proven track record of results
  • Excellent understanding of direct material cost drivers and proven track record of cost reduction strategies implementation
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentations skills
  • Solution oriented, problem solving and result driven attitude to work 
  • Mentoring and coaching capability to grow the team competences
  • Self-guided and proactive team player, able to operate under pressure
  • Fluent in written and spoken English language
  • Professional certification in Procurement or Strategic Sourcing considered a plus
