Principal Software Engineer (Edge)

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Wärtsilä Voyage common edge platform team, a key enabler for application development for connected vessels. Working within the technology team, the successful candidate will set the tone for our developer experience. Working within a team of highly experienced domain expert; in an agile setup. The person should have exceptional communication skills to facilitate live/recorded demos, engage with the developer community (internal or external) as well as technical capabilities to further expand the platform product line.

The location for the position is Helsinki, Finland.

Software development:

  • Edge and IIoT platform software development
  • Facilitation with cross functional agile teams
  • Roadmap, feature and strategy proposals
  • Develop knowledge base (APIs, markdown & github repos, sandboxes)
  • Maintain a good balance between cross functional and teamwork
  • Establish continuous improvement strategies and KPIs for our developer experience

Technology Leadership:

  • Coach other development teams

Other qualifications/skills include:

  • Relevant experience in deep-tech Agile R&D organizations
  • Demonstrable experience in nurturing a community of developers
  • Polyglot in programming languages to bring it all together (Go, java, scripting, …)
  • Passion for microservices architecture and Docker or Kubernetes environments
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people in complex structures and ready to adopt a hands-on “can-do” attitude
  • Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-motivated with demonstrated passion for excellence
  • Fluency in English is a must, another European language a plus
