Product Engagement Lead

We are looking for a Product Engagement Lead, Fleet Optimisation with a main responsibility in accelerating the market success and growth of Wärtsilä’s Fleet Optimisation portfolio. The preferred locations for this position are Helsinki, Finland, Copenhagen, Denmark, Hamburg, Germany, Schiedam the Netherlands, or Singapore, but also other Wärtsilä locations are negotiable. 
    

Your role and responsibilities   

 

As Product Engagement Lead, you will accelerate the growth of Wärtsilä’s Fleet Optimisation solutions portfolio.  

 

Working across Product Management, Sales, customer success functions and Marketing, you will develop commercial opportunities, engage customers, support strategic sales cases, and translate maritime operational challenges into business growth.  

 

Marketing owns marketing strategy and execution, while you lead commercial growth initiatives and their outcomes.  

 

Your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop and execute commercialization strategies for the Fleet Optimisation portfolio, defining growth targets, commercial objectives, and success criteria. 
  • Identify and prioritize growth opportunities, target segments, strategic markets, and portfolio expansion initiatives. 
  • Assess market opportunities, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and commercial potential to support strategic decision-making. 
  • Develop business cases and commercialization plans for new offerings, services, portfolio enhancements, and growth initiatives. 
  • Lead commercialization planning and cross-functional go-to-market activities, ensuring successful launch execution and stakeholder alignment. 
  • Ensure commercial readiness through clear value propositions, sales enablement, customer engagement plans, and market positioning. 
  • Gather and validate customer, market, and sales insights to inform portfolio priorities, commercial assumptions, and value propositions. 
  • Partner closely with Sales, Product Management, Marketing, and Business Development to drive adoption, pipeline growth, and commercial success. 
  • Define, track, and communicate commercialization KPIs, monitoring performance and recommending corrective actions to achieve business impact 

 

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have: 

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in maritime studies, naval architecture, marine engineering, shipping and logistics, business, economics, or a related maritime field.  
  • Multiple years of experience in maritime commercial management, business development, solution sales, product commercialisation, shipping operations, or a comparable role.  
  • Practical understanding of commercial shipping and the roles of shipowners, operators, charterers, masters, and shore-based operational teams.  
  • Knowledge of voyage planning, weather routing, vessel performance, fuel optimisation, or maritime decision-support solutions.  
  • Understanding of how safety, weather, fuel consumption, schedules, emissions, and charter-party requirements affect vessel routing.  
  • Experience commercialising complex digital or data-driven solutions in an international B2B environment.  
  • Ability to translate technical capabilities into measurable customer value.  
  • Strong commercial judgement, communication, influencing, and cross-functional leadership skills.  
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with willingness to travel internationally.
