We are looking for a Senior Communications Manager, External Communications with the main responsibilities in developing and delivering crisis communications, nurturing media visibility as part of our thought leadership activities and contributing to Wärtsilä’s corporate communications assets. The primary location for this position is Helsinki, Finland, but also Vaasa, Finland and Singapore are possible locations. We offer a possibility to hybrid remote work. We hope you can start in this role around mid-September 2025
Your role and responsibilities:
As a Senior Communications Manager, External communications, you will work as a member of the Wärtsilä Corporate External Communications team, reporting to the Head of External Communications. The core elements of your daily work will include
- Developing, coordinating, and delivering crisis communications. You will enable Wärtsilä to be prepared for crisis situations by delivering targeted crisis communications training for key internal stakeholders and monitoring early signs of potentials risks
- You will deliver successful crisis communications when needed, based on solid foundation of a crisis communications plan and guidelines, and support our other communications colleagues in their crisis communication. Working closely together with communications colleagues and business leaders across the company is an integral part of your responsibilities
- Contributing to global media visibility as part of our thought leadership activities. As a member of the team, you will be involved in engaging with media on topical conversations, broadening our relationships with key media, and creating messaging for media conversations
- Contributing or owning some of the corporate communications assets. To ensure consistent messaging and delivery of key corporate communications assets like the annual report or the company website, you will contribute to creating, updating, and delivering those
Key tasks in the position:
- Creating messages, communications plans, and scenarios to address any potential issues or controversies in close collaboration with the corporate and business communications, regional communications community, security and risk management
- Simplifying complex topics and situations into clear overviews and actions in a fast pace
- Advising executive and other business leaders in disruptions or crisis situations
- Developing and delivering crisis comms training to various internal stakeholders
- Keeping a pulse on the latest trends and development of the risk environment for optimal preparedness
- Engaging regularly with media for pitching our perspectives or dealing with inbound inquiries
- Planning and executing media engagement activities as part of our thought leadership plan and team
- Contributing to content creation for key company communications assets as agreed
- Collaborating closely with comms colleagues and other key stakeholders globally across the company
Qualifications that will help you to succeed in the position:
- 9+ years of work experience in journalism or communications preferably in an global environment, including strong experience in crisis communications
- University degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or equivalent
- Strong understanding of media’s way of thinking and working
- Excellent written and verbal English skills, Finnish and Swedish skills are a plus
- Ability to collaborate and influence across the teams and outside of the company
- Excellent ability to perform under pressure and focus on details while keeping a broad perspective and handle sensitive issues professionally
- Ability to build scenarios and think conceptually
- Interest in technologies is an asset
