Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for an Electrical Engineer – Intern for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the hardware engineering team.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should be enthusiastic about jumping right into the ongoing development of next generation grid energy storage electrical systems.
Location(s) for this position is Herndon, Virginia.
Responsibilities:
- Work directly with electrical engineering team to develop a PCB electrical component library using Altium Designer
- Modify electrical component database entries – electrical and mechanical parameters, lifecycle status, manufacturer and supplier part numbers
- Create and review electrical schematic symbols and PCB footprints
- Review and edit existing electrical schematics under direction of electrical engineering team
- Assist in building and improving the electronics lab
- Set up electrical bench top tests and perform electrical testing of PCB electronics surrounding Battery Management Systems
- Review and editing of electrical design specifications and test plan documents
- Support main electrical lab activities, testing Battery energy storage system and components within the system.
Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements:
- Work from the office at least 3 days a week
- Electrical engineering undergrad or grad student focusing in PCB design, battery systems, or electrical systems.
- Preferably experience working in lab environment
- Interest in designing and configuring battery energy storage systems and battery enclosures.
- Interest to design low voltage electrical circuits for Battery Management Systems.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software – experience with Altium Designer is a plus, but not required
- Experience with electrical circuit simulation software such as LTSpice is a plus
- Maintain positive working relationships with peers, subordinates, and vendors in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Team player attitude internally and externally
