Electrical Engineer- Power System-Intern

This internship is located in Herndon, Virginia. Candidates from other regions of the USA are welcome to apply, but no relocation assistance is being offered.

 

Your main responsibilities are: 

 

  • Support Lab testing for Battery energy storage system lab testing and Lithium Ion cell testing.
  • Design and configure battery energy storage systems including component selection, site layout, cable schedule, auxiliary load estimation, and battery sizing/configuration.
  • Design electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and application/logic functional block diagrams in AutoCAD Electrical for energy storage systems including AC, DC, auxiliary power, control, and communications.
  • Review system specifications and develop electrical protection schemes and component selection such as breakers, fuses and relays for AC, DC, and auxiliary power of energy storage system.
  • Design and engineer cable schedules for AC and DC including one-line interpretation, ampacity calculation, and cable/termination selection.
  • Develop control solutions including I/O table, PLC selection, PLC logic development, testing, and deployment of solution into production environment.
  • Develop test plans for component and manufacturing suppliers and execute them onsite ensuring compliance to functional and QA requirements.
  • Participate in field testing and commissioning activities by developing test plans and collaborating with the field engineering team to execute and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Develop product documentation such as manuals, application notes, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for customers and product development programs.

 

 

You will shine in this role when:

  • Electrical engineering undergrad or grad student focusing in power systems and renewable energy.
  • Interest in designing and configuring battery energy storage systems and battery enclosures.
  • Knowledge of design electrical circuits for LV, MV, and DC applications ensuring compliance to common design standard.
