Fire Protection Engineer - Student

Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a Fire Protection Engineer Intern for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. This position is within the Product Development Hardware Engineering Team. The location for this position is Wärtsilä’s location in Herndon, VA. The position will be hybrid remote and part/full time depending on student schedule and availability.

 

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.

 

As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Support Fire Protection Engineer in complicance and code reviews. 

  • Create documentation on fire alarm systems for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on fire alarm systems with various country specific designs.

  • Work as the main/supporting liaison internally between different stakeholders/ business units such as - engineering, project development, procurement, etc. to ensure seamless execution of fire protection scheme.

  • Support testing of fire alarm and protection systems in internal or third-party lab.

  • Support reserach and development testing (i.e., gas dectection testing, fire alarm system testing, drafting and executing test plans, etc.)

 

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have

  • Undergraduate or graduate student in Fire Protection Engineering is preferred

  • Knowledge of equipment utilized for the detection of fire and gas detection equipment.

  • Ability to be hands-on with various fire alarm equipment and ability to learn!

  • Fire protection design including fire detection system design for equipment.

  • Familiarity with NFPA 72. 

  • Experience with multiple mechanical, electrical and controls systems preferred.

  • Knowledge of energy storage technology offerings and suppliers preferred.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, and vendors in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Team player attitude internally and externally
