Lab Technician

Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a Lab Technician for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the hardware engineering team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting research, development, and testing activities by ensuring the laboratory operates efficiently and safely. This position involves sample preparation and analysis, equipment maintenance, data collection, logistics coordination, and inventory management.
The location for this position is Wärtsilä’s office in Herndon, Virginia. This position will be a onsite role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Setting Up Lab Equipment:
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols during sample handling and testing.
- Prepare and analyze samples for experiments and tests, ensuring accuracy and integrity of samples.
- Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses.
2. Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Maintain an organized and clean workspace in compliance with laboratory safety standards.
3. Logistics Arrangement and Inventory Maintenance:
- Support the organization and upkeep of the warehouse and laboratory by maintaining an accurate inventory of parts, and test equipment in an organized manner.
- Track and manage inventory levels to ensure timely procurement and availability of materials and supplies.
- Handle shipping and receiving activities for projects, including documentation, packing, and tracking of items.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in high voltage electrical laboratory environment setting with a high sensitivity towards safety and compliance.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining electrical laboratory test equipment’s and or instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
- Hands-on experience with electrical wiring, cable routing, and building electrical test setups.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry software.
- Physical ability to lift and move equipment and materials as needed up to 50lbs; forklift operating experience is a plus.
- Comfortable with physical task, such as climbing the ladders, working in tight spaces and working outside.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with electrical activities and energy storage battery technologies.
- Experience in logistics and inventory management systems.
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits, wiring and components with ability to read technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Soldering, welding and other crafting skills preferred
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NEC) to ensure safe operation
- Precision in wiring connection and installation.
