Mechanical Designer- Remote

 

Wärtsilä’s Energy Business looking for a highly motivated and agile Mechanical Designer to join the rapidly growing Energy Storage & Optimization division of Wärtsilä Corp.  You will be responsible for creating CAD models and drawing specifications for new battery-based energy storage systems- ultimately to enabling the effective utilization of renewable energy for Wartsila’s domestic and international customers.  Additionally, the Mechanical Designer will be expected to work with various team member from different disciplines to create and maintain Bills of Materials manage Engineering Change Notices, as well as update and release drawing specifications to ensure timely delivery of new designs as well as support existing manufacturing.  This position requires flexibility to work on multiple projects in various stages of the design, validation, and the manufacturing product life cycle.

 

 

What will you be doing:

 

Produce detailed solid models of components and complex assemblies in Autodesk Inventor.  Updating existing designs and also designing completely new design concepts.

Present CAD designs for review via MS Teams platform in native Inventor environment and/or MS Power point as needed.  Manage action items and changes on the design from other team members.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design, or related field, preferred.  Minimum of 8 years working in product development or commercial design environment with expert CAD proficiency

 

 

Responsibility of a Sr. Mech. Designer:

 

  • As part of the Mechanical and Thermal design team, you will help engineers design cost-effective fabrications to be built domestically and internationally.
  • Advance CAD designs into built-to-print drawings to be fabricated by Wärtsilä’s manufacturing partners.
  • Manage design and drawing changes.
  • Bring expertise and mentor other team members with these responsibilities by establishing best practices and procedures.
  • Help manage ECNs- Changes and tracking.
  • To be successful in this role, we expect you to:
  • Be highly proficient designing structural weldments, electrical cabinets, or outdoor enclosures.
  • Expert with sheet metal design and cable routing using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment such as laser/water-jet machines, sheet metal, pipe and tube fabrication, structural (I-beams,C-channel).
  • Adept with weld call-out (AWS D1.1) and dimensioning practices (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience with equivalent ISO standards is helpful.
  • Experience with configuration control management, with expert level understanding of Autodesk Vault is highly desirable. 
  • Experience with Autodesk Fusion is a plus.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be a team player attitude internally and externally.
  • Work remotely but be available 8am to 5pm EST.
  • Be willing to travel up to 10% of the time, especially to team meetings at the Herndon, VA site
