Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Wärtsilä Energy Business is looking for an Fire Protection Engineer for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the Product management and Hardware engineering team.

 

The preferred location for this position is Herndon, Virginia. This position will be a hybrid work structure where the employee can work remotely or from the office, as needed and based on demands of specific tasks.

 

As Fire Protection Engineer-Energy Storage Applications, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Be globally the interface between Hardware engineering and Product management, sales engineering / delivery in the expertise Area.
  • Support fire protection and safety code compliance reviews of customer specifications.
  • Together with engineering and sourcing, assist in development of new suppliers and products.
  • Keep up to date with the relevant requirements and legislation globally.
  • Provide support to the sales and proposals teams as well as the delivery and service team.
  • Develop product technical documentation including application notes and input to product manuals.
  • Provide customer feedback and market requirements back to the PM organisation to further product development and portfolio management.

 

Requirements

  • BS and MS degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineering(PE) License preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Knowledge in the Energy Storage fire codes and standards. Examples include NFPA 855, NFPA 72, UL 9540, UL 9540A.
  • Experience reviewing and writing Hazard Mitigation Analysis, Emergency Response Plans, and decommissioning plans.
  • Knowledge of equipment used for fire detection, gas detection and deflagration hazards (NFPA 68, NFPA 69).
  • 6+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Experience in Energy storage / Renewable energy field required.
  • Solving customer’s needs and issues.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team player attitude internally and externally.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
