Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

We are seeking a mid-level full-stack software engineer to join our growing software team. This position can be remote or located in our software development center in Herndon, VA, USA. This position is within the Data Science group where we develop products that are deployed around the world involving battery system modeling, battery system monitoring, islanded grid control, renewable energy forecasting, and electricity market bidding.
 

 

Role Summary/Purpose
This role's main function is to advance the development of our Battery Energy Storage Systems modeling platform and tools. The Full Stack Software Engineer will lead the productization and development of simulation frameworks, simulation tools, and data-driven battery modeling capabilities in Python and MATLAB. The role will be an integral part of the Data Science team in a Research and Development role, working to accelerate the development of our software capabilities while supporting new product development initiatives in the field of automated power system optimization.

 

Essential Responsibilities
•    Execute our vision for the next evolution of our Digital Twin battery simulation platform.
•    Develop and implement frameworks for scalable time series simulations.
•    Work with our cloud services development team to deploy and monitor the Digital Twin platform in a cloud/bare-metal hybrid environment, helping to tune and debug performance.
•    Identify methods for improving performance within the context of the business logic and key performance indicators.
•    Write user facing documentation to clearly communicate the structure of the tool and how each feature can be leveraged.
•    Support tasks outside of job description as needed.

 

The candidate must be able to embrace the fast and dynamic environment of a growth stage company, comfortable with adjusting quickly to changing priorities.

 

Qualifications/Requirements
•    B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, or similar.
•    Experience working in an agile development environment using common tools such as JIRA and Git
•    Proficient in Node.js, Typescript and React (or similar UI libraries)
•    Mid-level in Python as a programming language (3+ years)
•    Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes
•    Track record of a career trajectory in and towards software engineering
•    Can work independently and provide strong leadership.

 

Desired Characteristics
•    Prior experience with production systems running advanced statistical algorithms and machine learning.
•    Experience with Google Cloud Platform
•    Experience with Jenkins
•    Experience with OIDC
•    Strong leadership record with active participation in renewable energy associations, forums, clubs, or groups
