Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

Wärtsilä Energy Storage & Optimisation (ES&O) is the leading global energy storage provider. We are seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to join our growing software team located in our software development center in Herndon, VA, USA.

 

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • As part of Wärtsilä’s ES&O GEMS software product team you will be responsible for contributing to our backend servers, UI, and deployment infrastructure.

  • Develop a data-centric, rich web platform for power plant equipment control, data visualization, and advanced analytics.

  • Help build GEMS into a world class, intelligent power plant and grid controller, support the path forward to 100% renewable energy.
  • Participate in an agile development environment.
  • Develop feature and other technical documents.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience with professional front and back-end development.

  • Strong knowledge of React for the UI and NodeJS for the backend.

  • Professional expertise in underlying technologies including HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and the V8 JavaScript Engine.
  • Professional expertise in developing REST and Websocket APIs.
  • Working knowledge of networking, Docker, Linux and code testing.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment using common tools such as JIRA and Git.
  • Ability to embrace a fast-moving environment and comfortable with quickly adapting to changing priorities.

  • Experience with setting up deployment of software and troubleshooting issues.

  • Experience developing complex software projects in commercial product settings.
  • Experience working with SQL-based relational databases.
  • Development experience with Java and or Python.
  • Deployment experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with time series databases InfluxDB or TimescaleDB.
  • Performance analysis and tuning for high-throughput data ingestion and aggregation.
  • Authentication protocols (OpenID, OAuth, etc.)
  • Experience with setting up system and application monitoring solutions.
  • Knowledge and/or interest in electrical concepts, power grids, renewable or green energy.
  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), I.T., or equivalent years of industry experience.
