Senior Power Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our cutting-edge Data Science team.


What will you be doing

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer , you will Develop and maintain power plant controller models and Support Business Development with technical input and review. The role will be an integral part of the Simulation and Data Science team in the Research and Development group, working to accelerate the development of our deployed software capabilities. The candidate must be able to embrace the fast and dynamic environment of a growth stage company, comfortable with adjusting quickly to changing priorities.


The ideal candidate has a background in power systems engineering, Expertise with PSS/E, PSCAD, or DigSilent and a Master's degree in power systems engineering or similar field of study.


As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain power plant controller models in PSS/E, PSCAD, and DigSilent as the in-house expert in dynamic transient simulations 
  • Integrate GEMS models with models of equipment models including battery PCS, PV inverters, wind turbine inverter and spinning generators.
  • Develop and provide input on control methods and algorithms for conducting steady-state, transient, and dynamic analysis.
  • Lead, carry out or support project-specific circuit studies as part of interconnect approval and grid-code verifications for grid-tied projects; or part of grid transient performance analysis for microgrid projects.
  • Develop and maintain battery circuit models in MATLAB/Simulink. Conduct battery operation simulation and analysis. Participate in battery system control development.
  • Develop other advanced control algorithms and simulation software as a part of the R&D team.
  • Interpret specifications and drawings as they pertain to electrical, mechanical, and communication network system design of large energy project sites that include thermal generation, renewable generation (PV or Wind), and energy storage.
  • Understand and can articulate a diverse range of operating methods for utility scale electrical power systems, including renewable energy, energy storage, and conventional generation technologies (including any combination of these systems in hybrid configurations).
  • Support Business Development with technical input and review


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • A background in power systems engineering, with a focus in renewable energy generation technologies
  • Expertise with PSS/E, PSCAD, or DigSilent
  • Minimum Master's degree in power systems engineering or similar
  • Expertise with MATLAB and Simulink in conducting electrical circuit modeling and simulations
  • Experience with Python coding
  • Excellent in math, with experience in one of the following areas: power systems engineer, statistical analysis, or time series models.
  • Can work independently and provide strong leadership Desired Characteristics
  • Experience with open-source analytic and data mining software.
  • Familiar with large datasets for high-speed computing.
  • Strong technology leadership record with power systems engineering and renewable energy projects.
