Whom We Need

Headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, we are seeking a Software Engineer in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, to join our team


As a Software Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Develop a data-centric, rich web platform for power plant equipment control, data visualization, and advanced analytics.
  • Help build GEMS into a world class, intelligent power plant and grid controller, and support the path forward towards a 100% renewable energy future.
  • Drive feature development for our distributed device management, data aggregation, rule-based intelligence, and data analytics platform.
  • Participate in an agile development environment.
  • Document, test, and undergo performance analysis of each feature.
  • Participate in customer facing discussions, meetings, and project delivery.


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, Power or Aerospace), or equivalent years of industry experience.
  • A technologist with proven record of independently design and implement complex software products. Passionate about solving real-world engineering problems with software technologies.
  • Using Java as the main programming language (or equivalent language) for the past 2 years. Some experience in developing core Java applications in the Linux environment involving JVM tuning, multi-threading and TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience in object-oriented programming and design patterns; a passion for solving sophisticated problems with clean, elegant code.
  • A thorough understanding of Agile software development methodologies, procedures, and tools. Some experience with managing builds, integration, testing and deployments to facilitate complex software development in Agile environment.
  • Ability to embrace an agile technical environment and dynamic global business environment.
