We are now looking for a Business Development Manager, New Build to join our team working for a better future.

 

This is a permanent position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States. Candidates residing within a 40-mile radius of a company office are required to follow a hybrid work model, which includes an on-site presence two days per week.

 

 What You Will Be Doing

As a New Build Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new Engine Power Plant Project opportunities across North America. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive business growth and ensure successful project delivery.

Key Accountabilities & Attributes:

  • Direct customer interaction with responsibility to develop New Build Engine Power Plant Project opportunities for North America, particularly for Data Centers, Developers and Independent Power Producers.

  • Proactively develop a pipeline of sales opportunities relevant to Projects .

  • Responsible for leading face to face proposal presentations and negotiations with customers to secure contracts.

  • Work collaboratively and proactively with both Finland EPP leadership and support staff to ensure the maximum leverage of Wartsila strengths, relationships and resources.

  • Previous experience and an understanding of the systematic approach to assessing and developing project sales in all aspects, including a demonstrated ability to identify and understand the customer's buying & funding cycle in order to prioritize opportunities

  • Have the ability to know when, who and how to influence EPP and personnel in Wartsila

  • A comprehensive understanding of the North American energy market, the influences of fuel costs and availability.

  • Follows established sales and proposal processes

  • A multi-year track record of major project &/or Agreement sales success (including greater than $10 million USD per agreement or project)

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain customer relationships with the objective of securing new business.

  • Work closely with our EPP groups, Sales Support Engineers, Growth and Development, Account Managers and Energy BDMs to develop information necessary for market assessment and proposal creation.

  • Respond to customer requests for final and preliminary pricing, technical and performance information. 

  • Contract negotiations.

  • Customer presentations and on-site meetings. 

  • Participation in trade shows.

  • Ensure a comprehensive handover of all commercial and technical aspects of the project at the time of contract

 

Personal and Technical Development Responsibilities:

  • Data Center and IPP/Developer markets

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business.

  • Five or more years of experience in major Project and/or Long-Term Service Agreement sales.

  • A consistent track record of success winning or originating contracts greater than $10 million.

  • Specific engine-based Power Generation industry or front of meter utility-scale Battery Energy Storage experience is a must.

  • Written and spoken fluency in English required.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time, primarily within the country, with occasional international travel as required.

For applicants that reside in CA/CO/WA, the salary range is $ 160,000 - $ 195,000.

 

For applicants that reside in NY,  the salary range is $ 155,000 - $ 190,000.

 

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.

 

This position requires a 40% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.
