Electrical & Automation Service Technician 

 

We are now looking for an Electrical & Automation Service Technician to join our team through a structured development path, working for a better future.

 

The role begins in Field Service, providing hands-on exposure to electrical and automation systems in diverse operational environments. Upon successful completion of the Field Service phase and demonstrated proficiency in electrical and automation systems, the role transitions into a plant-based technician position focused on electrical maintenance, automation systems, and the reliability of power generation equipment.

What You Will Be Doing?
 

As an Electrical & Automation Service Technician, you will support the growing demand for electrical and automation service activities by performing hands-on field service tasks under defined procedures and guidance. During the Field Service phase, you will build strong practical competence in troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning support of Wärtsilä electrical and automation systems.

 

Following a successful development period, you will transition into a plant-based technician role, where your focus will be on electrical maintenance, automation system reliability, and continuous improvement of power generation equipment performance.

This position reports to the Team Leader Resources E&A.

 

Responsibilities:
 

Field Service Phase

  • Perform electrical and automation troubleshooting, repairs, and routine maintenance on Wärtsilä systems under established procedures.
  • Support service and commissioning activities for Wärtsilä control and automation systems at customer sites.
  • Assist with Engine Control Systems, Power Management Systems (PMS), connectivity devices (HMI, firewalls, servers), and general automation solutions.
  • Prepare accurate service documentation and reports describing work performed and findings.
  • Maintain technical communication with Wärtsilä field service stakeholders and customers.
  • Execute all work in full compliance with Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QEHS) guidelines and customer-site procedures.
  • Support senior engineers and technicians during complex service activities.
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, and efficiency.


Plant-Based Technician Phase (Post-Development):
 

  • Perform electrical maintenance and troubleshooting of power generation and automation systems at plant level.
  • Support automation system reliability, availability, and performance optimization.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities according to maintenance plans.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support safe and reliable plant operation in compliance with QEHS standards.

 

 

Required Qualifications:
 

  • A strong safety-first mindset.
  • Technical education in Electrical, Automation, Controls, or related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated electrical and automation aptitude with a strong willingness to learn.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, control systems, and industrial automation.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work systematically.
  • Good analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate effectively with team members and customers.

  • Carrying up to 25 pounds (5 times per shift).
  • Driving (local and over-the-road).
  • Ability to bend, squat, sit, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Climbing and balance.

Travel Requirements:
 

This position requires a high level of travel during the Field Service phase (approximately 70%), including domestic and international assignments, both onshore and offshore. Travel requirements are expected to reduce significantly once transitioned into the plant-based technician role.

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.
