Energy Markets Data Architect


We are looking for an Energy Markets Data Architect who will support our product, sales, leadership and marketing teams with insights gained from analyzing company data. The Data Architect understands the business needs, explores the existing data structure, and creates a blueprint for building an integrated framework of easily accessible, secure data aligned with the business strategy. The Data Architect needs to coordinate and collaborate with users, system designers, and developers in their day-to-day functions. The desired location for this position is Houston, TX but remote work from other US locations will be considered.


The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

As an Energy Markets Data Architect, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Support the organizations near term energy business strategy and development initiatives, performing a variety of analytical functions, including data management.
  • Support conceptual and logical data modelling efforts for strategic initiatives.
  • Develop pragmatic roadmaps and solution blueprints to enhance business approach we have around data.
  • Determine solutions to meet the needs and enhance the information for better decision making (internal & external).
  • Support the organizations near term energy business strategy and development initiatives, performing a variety of analytical functions, including data management.
  • Ability to research very large in-house data sets and third-party sources to help Wartsila understand how its solution compares commercially with the marketplace.
  • Participate in and provide support for our global market development activities with power system modelling using Plexos - power system optimization software and Excel-based tools; analyze results and quantify system-level benefits.
  • Create informative, data-driven presentations for senior members of the team to present to internal and external audiences.
  • Support Market Development, Sales and Lifecycle groups with relevant information on markets and data for power system analysis and sales project screening.
  • Cross functional collaboration with groups to support research, conferences, and marketing services


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Data migration and consolidation proficiencies
  • Proficient in platforms such as MS Azure, Power BI and the full MS Office Suite of applications
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred to include Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science
