Energy Storage Systems Field Service Engineer

The position of Field Service Engineer will be part the growing Field Service Delivery Team within the Energy Business – Energy Storage & Optimization, Lifecycle Services. The applicant should have a solid understanding of fundamental electrical engineering, project management and construction principals, as well, as experience in high power electrical systems.

 

The Wärtsilä Energy Business – ES&O team has a vacancy for a Field Service Engineer – Energy Storage and Optimization. The preferred location for this position is Houston, TX and Emeryville, CA.  This position will be primarily hybrid and occasionally reporting into one of Wärtsilä local offices. The ideal candidate has a degree in Electrical Engineering and 2+ years of experience with energy storage systems and/or renewable energy, power systems design and communication networks.

 

What Will You Be Doing As a Service Engineer – Energy Storage and Optimization, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Perform field service activities according to the agreement needs and work plan.
  • Support on commission of stationary battery energy storage systems and related equipment.
  • Solve technical and operational problems at our customer installations as well as report and propose product improvement needs to reach quality and cost targets and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and maintain good relationships with the customer.
  • Prepare and present analytical reports with adequate conclusions and recommendations for how to solve technical problems of the customer as required.
  • Participate in customer meetings as local technical advisor when needed.
  • Create service work reports and other relevant documentation related to site or customer visits.
  • Be able to travel to our customer facilities for service attendance within Canada, US and the Caribbean.
  • Be on service jobs about 50% minimum of the year

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have the following: Desired Education

  • Masters’ or Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience

 

Desired Skills And Experience

  • 2-4 years’ experience with energy storage systems and/or renewable energy, power systems design and communication networks

 

In-dept knowledge of:

  • PV Systems
  • OPC systems
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Battery and inverter technology
  • Windows server and UNIX/LINUX
  • PLC systems
  • Industrial networks and protocols (Modbus TCP, Profibus, CAN-bus, CIP, ethernet/IP, ControlNET, etc.)
  • Advance programming of firewalls and routers
  • Protection relays
  • Familiar with NEMA and IP enclosure designs

 

Additional Skills:

  • Detail oriented with a project management mindset

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commissioning experience

For applicants that reside in California, the salary range/hourly wage range is $82,556 - $100,901. 


The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.  Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods.  Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
