Expertise Center Manager


The world of energy is changing faster than ever before, with renewable energy sources fundamentally changing the way we generate and consume electricity. At Wärtsilä, with our innovative energy solutions, we want to be leading the transition towards a 100% renewable energy future. To join us in this journey to make this happen, we are looking for an Expertise Center Manager to lead our support and technical expert team in Americas with skills, dedication and a sense of adventure. We are building a new state-of-the-art expertise center to support our power plant and energy storage customers with latest technologies like remote connectivity and data-based troubleshooting. This permanent position will be in Houston, USA.


This is a unique opportunity for you to join us and shape the transitioning energy market and the energy business at Wärtsilä. As the Center Manager, you will support the team by providing direction and guidance to the other team members of the center on support and process improvement opportunities. Researching, collecting, and reporting information related to agreements, contracts, and support improvements in the industry and beyond that would benefit Wartsila would also be expected. The manager will lead and direct the work of the team in the center and they will also coordinate the work of other cross organizational professionals.

  • Lead and manage agreement and non-agreement customer’s activities and assigned team in the responsibility area in order to ensure customer satisfaction and to reach set quality, financial, cost and time targets.
  • Experience with NERC/FERC reliability standards and ensure NERC CIP requirements are adhered to when performing work.
  • Commercialization of the Expertise Centre services
  • Support customers and internal stakeholders with engine and energy storage installations by providing product and service information
  • Ensure, monitor and improve contract installations operations and maintenance performance according to KPIs and by use of new data technologies and remote technologies.
  • Work in accordance with global and local cyber security guidelines.
  • Ensure right competences and resources to secure Expertise Centre services delivery.
  • Ensure Centre performance indicators are met.


Main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for activities regarding the Expertise Centre and its implementation including:
    • Evaluate, monitor and improve operations and maintenance for optimized performance and high customer satisfaction
    • Lead and direct the work of others in the center. Also coordinate the work of other professionals, engineers/technicians and others outside of the support center
    • Ensure efficient contract mobilization
    • Inventory follow-up
    • Coordinate with Technical Service and other Wärtsilä knowledge centers
    • Coordinate with external suppliers for efficient delivery
    • Financial follow-up for Expertise Centre and reporting
  • Support Agreement Managers for the assigned contracts. Maintain relations with contract personnel and customer organizations.
  • Improvement proposals for the center function, contract process and on-site procedures
  • Continuously develop and create value for customers
  • Develop understanding for own organization what is required to ensure renewals of contracts


Development responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of the Expertise Centre’s way of working and improve the tools and services.
  • Take remote operations and use of data to the next level.
  • Coach and guide others in operations and maintenance management
