Finance & Accounting Intern (Summer 2026)

Wärtsilä's Finance & Accounting Department is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Summer Intern to join our in-house Accounting team in Houston for the summer. This opportunity is ideal for rising 2nd and 3rd year Finance, Accounting, or Business students looking to immerse themselves in the field of Finance, Accounting, and Compliance. As an intern, you will support the team on a wide range of accounting matters, gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, international business environment, and work closely with our detail-oriented in-house accounting professionals.


Interns will contribute to meaningful projects, receive mentorship, and present their final outcomes to leadership.


Successful candidate must be able to work a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week in our Houston office.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with monthly closing and quarterly tasks, gain understanding of Financial Statements, and support presentations for monthly management meetings.
  • Support corporate governance, regulatory compliance, business license filings, and corporate credit cards management.
  • Help with accounts payable and receivable inquiries and assisting with audits as needed.
  • Help with maintaining records, filing documents, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Participate in meetings with Finance and Tax advisors and external partners as needed.
  • Perform any other Finance tasks and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Participate in company volunteer and community service events.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. business school, pursuing a Finance, Accounting, or Business degree, preferably as a rising sophomore or junior.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in accounting & finance}
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English (fluency in Spanish is a plus).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Prior internship or relevant experience in an accounting environment is a plus but not required.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

 

Duration:
This is a paid full-time internship position for a duration of 3 months during the summer of 2026.

 

Start date:
The anticipated start date for this position is June 1, 2026.  Relocation support is not provided for this position.
