About the role:
The Financial Controller is accountable for ST&CC operations and performance related to local ST&CC processes, financial information and external financial statutory reporting. Ensuring a true and fair view of risks, rewards and financial position of the legal entity. Providing valuable company level support for businesses, high standard financial company reporting according to Wärtsilä Group Directives and Policies, as well as local accounting requirements.
The ideal candidate is a financials minded professional, who partners with other functions within and outside of ST&CC. This person will have a strong financial background, is proactive, externally focused and future oriented. Utilizing strong networking and influencing skills, (s)he identifies opportunities and risks. You are a fact based challenger who defines ways to measure and report on financial and operational key indicators.
This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be able to work 2-3 days in our Houston, TX office.
Main Responsibilities:
- Managing, controlling and ensuring the correctness of company level financial position according to legal compliance and Wärtsilä Corporation accounting manual, directives, policies, guidelines and requirements.
- Preparing and reporting certain quarterly and tax notes in HFM.
- Collecting and preparing financial information, reports and analyses to internal and external stakeholders and authorities, e.g. local statutory reporting.
- Preparing statutory local adjustments and bridge calculations.
- Providing and presenting Financial Review material to the company Board of Directors Meeting.
- Coordinating external auditing, internal auditing and internal control reporting of the company, as well as remediation of relevant internal controls.
- Supporting and participating in development and optimizing projects which require financial competence and support, in cooperation with global process owners and other stakeholders.
- Supporting and advising the businesses in financial processes related to statutory, tax and company compliance.
- High performance culture in accordance with Wärtsilä and WGBS strategy, vision, mission and values.
- Responsible for local Sub-Group or/and Tax Group or/and branch reporting (if applicable).
- Approving some limited SAP access rights.
- Preparing and maintaining local Delegation of Authority (DoA) documentation. Managing system authorizations, Power of Attorneys, Letter of Authorities e.g. for local banks.
- Approving items according to company Delegation of Authority.
- Reporting (mandatory) financial statistics to local authorities.
- Tax related compliance in co-operation with Tax CoE (calculations reclaims, risk reporting, litigations, auditing).
- Coordinating property related insurance matters and insurance claims together with Group Risk Management and Businesses.
- Involvement in possible changes in the company legal structures (mergers, acquisitions, liquidations).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5 years of experience in Finance.
- Previous experience within an international matrix organization is required.
- Knowledge of SAP and HMF.
- Subject matter expert in financial statutory accounting, company compliance and/or taxation.

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
