This is an entry
level position within the InSitu Machining department and Tool Center. We are looking for new talent at the beginning of their career who can be trained and developed to meet the department’s needs. The longterm objective of this role is to develop into a Field Service team member, supporting customers onsite and traveling as required.

The position is permanent, and the location is Houston, TX.

 

 

What You Will Be Doing?
 

In this role, you will begin your career in a workshopbased environment, supporting insitu machining and tool center operations. You will be trained to perform machining, tooling, maintenance, and workshop service activities while learning Wartsila's safety standards, quality requirements, and ways of working.

The position is designed to build a strong technical foundation. The successful candidate is expected to spend around two years performing workshop duties before gradually transitioning into more extensive field service assignments and travel.

 

You will work closely with the InSitu Machining team to support both internal workshop activities and ongoing customer field service projects.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to the execution of workshop service tasks, including overhauls, reconditioning, modification, cleaning, and machining of reciprocating engine components.
  • Perform maintenance, redesign, upgrades, and machining work on insitu equipment and tools.
  • Support ongoing customer field service projects by providing accurate and timely workshop services.
  • Carry out milling, tuning, tool maintenance and repairs, packing of tooling, calibration, fabrication, and related workshop activities.
  • Manage and track tool inventory, including insitu machining and measuring tools.
  • Prepare, maintain, and coordinate tools and equipment for workshop and field use.
  • Ensure all workshop and onsite activities are carried out safely and in compliance with site safety rules and Wartsila Health & Safety standards (ISO 45001:2018).
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Wartsila quality standards (ISO 9001:2015).
  • Perform proactive preventive maintenance tasks to ensure safe and reliable equipment condition.
  • Support minor travel assignments as required.
  • Provide internal and external work reports according to Wartsila standards.
  • Collect, submit, and organize time and expense reports.
  • Act as an integral part of the InSitu Machining team, supporting common goals and customer deadlines, including working overtime when required.
  • Maintain a flexible, adaptable, and positive attitude toward adhoc duties as needed.

 

To Be Successful in This Role, We Expect You to Have?
 

Education:
 

  • Technical education or vocational training in machining, mechanical engineering, industrial mechanics, or a related field.

 

Experience:

 

  • Entrylevel role; previous workshop, machining, or mechanical experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Exposure to machining, mechanical maintenance, or industrial environments is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Basic machining knowledge (milling, turning, measuring).
  • Experience with reciprocating engines or industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with workshop tools, measuring instruments, or calibration activities.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.
  • Interest in developing a longterm career in field service.

Travel Requirements:

 

In this role, some domestic travel may be required. While most activities are workshop-based, occasional visits to customer sites or training sessions may occur. Estimated travel: 40%
