Manager, AMER Project Delivery

The position of AMER Project Delivery Manager (“PDM”) will be part of the growing Project Delivery Team and report to the General Manager of Global Project Delivery. The PDM is responsible for the project delivery engineers, hence is responsible for the team of engineers that technically oversees and support delivery of projects during the project execution phase. The PDM will be responsible for supervising and supporting the team members to ensure deployment of high-quality deliverables across a wide scope of commitments and ultimately to support project execution on time and within budget. Applicant should have strong background designing and delivering utility-scale battery energy storage systems and a proven track record for successful project execution.

 

This position will work closely with the following group: Project Management, Product HW Team, Delivery Solutions, Software Solutions and Commissioning Management, and other various groups to ensure ESS projects fulfill customer functional and contract requirements.

 

Reporting and Work Location:

This position shall report to the General Manager of Project Delivery

  • Location: Herndon, VA or Houston, TX. This role will be hybrid.
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international for team meetings, client meetings, project sites, and/or vendors meetings (Approx. 40%), should reside close to a major airport.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 5 years of experience with distribution or transmission scale battery energy storage system.
  • 5 years of experience in project execution delivering systems to utilities or industry.
  • Strong technical understanding power system design and control systems.
  • Excellent project management skills, with track record of delivering projects within budget and on schedule.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of engineers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate highly complex engineering, construction, and operational issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the team of delivery engineers to ensure high-quality project execution and deliverables by providing leadership and support in their daily activities.
  • Maintain adequate engineering resources to support projects in execution and forecast future resourcing needs.
  • Work with other departments to ensure smooth and efficient project communication and execution.
  • Support team to identify and mitigate technical risk that could lead to poor project profitability.
  • Maintain good reporting practices into the relevant business systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Wartsila products using feedback from the delivery team.
  • Drive continuous improvement on the way of working both within the delivery team but also with all other project collaborator.
  • Maintain and improve the team’s competence via a training and/or mentorship program.
  • Ensure adequate safety training for the team members based on job scope.

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Field experiences commissioning battery energy storage or other substation systems.
  • Working knowledge of BESS components.
  • Experience with utility-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects and products (bi-directional inverters, various battery chemistries, PV, wind turbines, flywheels, etc.).
  • Understanding of Inverter, Converter, Transformer, Battery, Circuit breaker, Fuse, AC/DC power supply electrical equipment.
  • Understanding of utility generation project engineering, construction, and commissioning practices.
  • Applicant should be able to read and understand drawings of electrical controls for industrial automation, switchgear control, and protection, involvement with medium voltage equipment, and network schematics. Especially single-line, three-line, fire safety systems, and communication diagrams.
  • Familiar with relevant codes and standards for ESS and inverters (NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA, UL, IEC).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
