What will you be doing
As a Navigation Engineer, you will carry out complex field service work activities related to equipment including repair and maintenance. The ideal candidate has previous experience as a Radar Technician or similar, with training in Electrical or Electronics.
As a Navigation Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting on site to isolate and find causes of equipment failures.
- Keep track of work details and provide in depth reports including all the necessary details. (Measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.)
- Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures.
- Keep track and provide an accounting of time, spare parts used.
- Prepare and install software and equipment onboard ships by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Understanding and/or experience of logic programming preferred.
- Understanding and/or experience of Electrical and Automation systems preferred.
- General understanding of power plant, switchboards, diesel engines, generators, navigation and propulsion - preferred but not required.
- Flexibility to travel is a must.
- Ability to work with subcontractors during cable and equipment installation.
- Ability to work independently in a proactive and structured manner.
- Good communication skills, very good team and customer’s relations. Leading people.
- Motivated to learn in classroom/field trainings and quickly grow professionally.
- Ability to travel, to work abroad and on board of sailing vessels.
- Computer skills, MS Office suite.

Travel Requirements
This position requires a 50% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.

Successful applicant must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship. Hourly range is $25.00 - $30.00 plus overtime, depending on experience and education. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
