Operations Advisor

Position: Operations Advisor

Role Description: We require the services of the Beneficiary to serve as an O&M Advisor for the Rudolph E Harley Power Plant own by the Virgin Island Power and Water Authority, Th O&M Advisor, in its capacity, will assist the VIWAPA in performing the  operation and maintenance activities at the plant and also manage teams in order to ensure customer satisfaction and to reach set contractual quality, financial, cost, and time targets.

Location: Virgin Island (Open to Relocation)
Model: On site - At Virgin Islan Plant with Rotation model (3 months on the island and 15 days at home)

Main Activities:

  • Analyse the performance of the engines, generators and auxiliaries.
  • Track the behaviour of variables like engine temperatures, power output, pressure differential, heat rate, emissions, etc.
  • Troubleshooting. Identify issues and apply corrective actions.
  • Participate in planning of schedule and unscheduled jobs.
  • Recommend jobs for corrective actions.
  • Recommend jobs for improvement.
  • Certify calibration of instruments.
  • Support the client’s operations by analysing alarms and trips.
  • Manage site safety condition with team member include subcontractor under Wartsila and local regulation.
  • Supervise site work with team member include subcontractor and report through the service work report.
  • On occasion, manage and lead the assigned team, and related activities, during the work execution.
  • Communicate with back office for RCA and troubleshooting during site work.
  • Create daily work report and update site condition to the back office.
  • Communicate with customer about technical and commercial requirement on site work.
  • Planning and coordinating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and overhauls.
  • Planning the resources and competences for execution of field work
  • Conduct unscheduled Outage planning, coordination, and supervision of execution and further report in direct coordination with the Operation and Maintenance team from the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority based on the records from the CMMS, equipment failure investigations, and evidence of faulty operations to mitigate any potential risk affecting the reliability of the power plant.
  • Managing technical documentation from equipment suppliers for internal and external purposes.
  • Supporting site team during installation & commissioning in the ramp-up phase.
  • Performing project work in compliance with Company Project Management Methodology and Business Directives.
  • Safeguard that works under own responsibility area are executed according to requirements, specifications, instructions, and policies.
  • Support purchasers in supplier & stakeholder negotiations when needed and maintain good supplier / stakeholder relationships.
  • Perform overhaul and repairing for the 4-stroke diesel and gas both engine.
  • Carry out complex field service work activities related to propulsion equipment including repair, maintenance.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on site to isolate and find root causes of failures.
  • Follow up executed and postponed maintenance tasks and improvements
  • Lead and manage assigned self/team while on site, interacting with the customer to arrange for proper schedule to achieve desired scope.
  • Keep track of work details and provide in depth reports including all the necessary details. (Measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.)
  • Perform internal and external progress reporting on the status of assigned work.
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures.
  • Keep track and provide an accounting of time, spare parts used.
