Senior Manager, Strategic & Commercial Analytics

Wärtsilä Energy is seeking an accomplished Senior Manager, Strategic & Commercial Analytics to drive data driven decision making across the Americas region (North, Central, and South Americas). This is a high impact role enabling stronger value propositions, customer engagement, and market differentiation in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. 

 

The position is permanent, and the preferred location is Houston, TX. Alternative locations such as Fort Lauderdale, FL or Herndon, VA, may also be considered.  The role follows a hybrid work schedule, with two days per week onsite in the office.

 

Role Overview 

 

In this role, you will lead the newly established Strategic & Commercial Analytics team (~3 team members), responsible for transforming commercial, technological, and financial data into actionable insights that shape market strategy, demand generation, and competitiveness across Wärtsilä Energy’s end-to-end business. 

 

You will combine commercial and financial modeling expertise with strong analytical capabilities to develop compelling business cases for customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. 

 

The position reports directly to the Director, Growth & Development Americas and works closely with cross-functional teams including Market Development, Project Development, and Sales. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Strategic & Commercial Analytics Leadership 

 

  • Lead the development and delivery of strategic and commercial analytics, including financial models that highlight the value of Wärtsilä’s New Build and Lifecycle solutions across the Americas. 

  • Drive the execution and continuous improvement of the Deal Room process to optimize deal profitability and reinforce Wärtsilä’s competitive positioning. 

 

Market & Deal Origination Support 

 

  • Partner with Sales, Project Development, and Market Development teams to evaluate and originate new commercial opportunities, using robust analytical justification for project feasibility and customer value creation. 

  • Translate complex results from power sy stem modeling into clear, data-driven narratives that differentiate Wärtsilä’s solutions and support customer and stakeholder education. 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Insight Integration 

 

  • Collaborate across Energy Business functions to ensure data flows efficiently and is utilized effectively to support strategy, planning, and execution. 

  • Identify new data sources, system enhancements, automation, and AI opportunities to improve productivity and decision quality. 

 

Team Development & Operational Excellence 

 

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of analysts, establishing processes, tools, and best practices that elevate analytics across the Americas. 

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and analytical rigor. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in data science & analytics, commercial modeling, or financial analysis (deal rooms), preferably within the energy industry and/or top tier management consulting. 

  • Solid understanding of electricity markets and relevant technologies, preferably thermal power technologies. 

  • Proven capability to lead and execute complex analytical projects. 

  • Experience with power system modeling tools (e.g., Plexos, SERVM, Python-based workflows). 

  • Familiarity with IRPs, power development plans (PDPs), and energy market advocacy processes 

  • Demonstrated leadership in stakeholder engagement, cross functional coordination, or project management. 

  • Proficiency in business intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI) and advanced Excel based analytics. 

  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.  

  • Master's degree in data science, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field. 

  • Fluency in English; Spanish considered as a plus 

 

Travel Requirements 

Up to 20% travel across the Americas may be required for customer meetings, cross functional workshops, and stakeholder engagements. Most collaboration will occur virtually.
