Senior Service Engineer Mechanic

We are now looking for a Senior Service Engineer Mechanic to join our Field Service & Workshop Mediterranean Team in Istanbul, Turkey.

 

You'll play a key role in delivering technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning services for marine engines and propulsion systems across Turkey and beyond.

Your role and responsibilities 

 

As a Senior Service Engineer Mechanic, you'll work at the forefront of marine technology, supporting customers in shipyards, ports, and onboard vessels. You'll perform and lead maintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup activities while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Performing maintenance, overhaul, repair, and troubleshooting activities on marine engines and propulsion systems.
  • Leading and supervising on-site activities carried out by Wärtsilä personnel and subcontractors.
  • Executing engine start-ups, commissioning assignments, sea trials, and equipment testing.
  • Identifying technical issues, diagnosing root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Building strong relationships with customers and acting as a trusted technical expert on site.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with Wärtsilä quality, safety, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Preparing technical reports and communicating work progress to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and promoting best practices.
  • Managing work documentation, time reporting, and expense reporting accurately.

 

To succeed in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • 5–10 years of technical experience within marine engineering, shipyards, field service, or related industries.
  • A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Practical experience in engine maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and mechanical overhauls.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • A safety-first mindset and strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Good command of English.
  • The flexibility and willingness to travel extensively within Turkey and internationally when required.
  • Where applicable, military service obligations must be completed.

 

It would be great if you also have:

 

  • Hands-on experience with marine engines and propulsion systems.
  • Previous experience leading mechanical maintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, or commissioning activities in a marine or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with ship automation systems.
  • Excellent technical communication skills and the ability to explain complex issues clearly to customers and colleagues.
