Contract Manager, Marine Power

We are looking for Contract Manager, Marine Power in Japan. This is a permanent opportunity and its location is Kobe or Tokyo, Japan.

What will you be doing:

This role is delivering the scope of long-term maintenance agreement of engines and its auxiliaries. You should be accountable to customer satisfaction, profitability of assigned contracts as well as renewal of those contracts at expiration.

As Contract Manager, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Execute each assigned agreement in accordance with the written contract, Wartsila procedures and general management practices in a safe and cost-effective way
  • Communicate actively with each customer and ensure timely resolution of issues for the Customer
  • Lead collaboration with each internal stakeholder involved in delivering the scope of the agreement
  • Prioritize actions leading to increased customer satisfaction and profitability
  • Financially plan, forecast and monitor financial KPI's for each contract (sales, margin...)
  • Complete target setting for own assigned contracts once a year
  • Regularly assess the risks on assigned contracts and implement plans to mitigate those risks
  • Communicate and escalate internally when required for issues/additional risks encountered and prepare summary and actions to overcome those
  • Ensure quality of work related to the contract execution.
  • Support the agreement sales process via the capture team and ensure accuracy of the cost calculation and risk mitigation at key stages of the sales process (Offer Review, Contract Review...)
  • Ensure that the Customer meets the requirements of the contract (eg fluid quality)
  • Create sales leads and upselling opportunities for each assigned installation
  • Manage mobilization of new contracts and demobilization of the contract at expiry
  • Implement when applicable new ways of working/tools to improve the deliverables of the contracts
  • Initiate customer's feedback and renewal process towards end part of the agreement


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • BSc. in Engineering or in other related disciplines
  • 5 years working experience in the Marine and Offshore or equivalent industry
  • Structured and well-planned way of working
  • Focused and can-do attitude
  • Good co-operation, teamwork and communication skills
  • Knowledge on operations and maintenance of large machinery
  • Understanding of business service contracts
  • Native level Japanese communication skill is mandatory to communicate and negotiate with local customers.
  • Good in written and spoken English
  • Good IT skills


You will be more successful if you have;

  • Good practical knowledge and understanding of Marine Engines and Propulsion Systems
