We are now looking for a Head of HR Local Operations, Wärtsilä Japan. As Head of HR, WJP, you will be responsible for driving the HR Transformation and People strategy through the HR Local Operation team. You will be responsible for effective working relationships between the company, the employee and other external stakeholders (local authorities and legally mandated service providers), and internal stakeholders (Line managers, PSH, BHR, TAS), ensuring employee engagement by driving a culture of fairness and inclusion. Your team will not only focus on supporting and navigating local leaders and managing directors on legally mandates local practices (incl. disciplinary actions, grievances, code of conduct issues etc.), they will also advise local management in employment related matters and support employee wellbeing.

 

Among your accountabilities will also be involvement in HR policies and guidelines related to WJP, in line with local and global HR processes, timely and correct payroll services, external resource management, and fulfilling all legal obligations belonging to payroll (i.e. tax, pension). A strong focus of your team will also be on process standardisation and continuous service improvement in all areas of delivery.



What will you be doing:

 

As Head of HR Local Operations, WJP, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Nurture and develop the HR team to continue to deliver excellent people focussed support 
  • Drive the HR transformation from an employee relations perspective 
  • Provide a country overview and alignment of local policies/ processes/ handbooks, balancing between standardization and local variation & fluctuation, striving for employee engagement and focused on local compliance
  • Actively drive operational excellence in all activities to continuously improve performance
  • Maintain contacts with MD's on local people related matters within your country, advising/partnering/coaching managers in all people matters 
  • Stimulate the exchange of local wellbeing practices and ensuring a minimum level of local facilities and benefits
  • Pro-actively support organizational changes together with your team, from a legal as well as a communication and change management perspective 
  • Enforce local policies and processes (where local differentiation from global policies or processes is required due to legal or significant cultural reasons) that are fair and consistent and aligned to our global framework. 
  • Accountability for effective working relationships between company, the employee and stakeholders such as local authorities and legally mandated service providers
  • Proactive communication and change management efforts towards own team and the Wärtsilä organization in initiatives with limited or wider scope 
  • Drive collaboration with other HR functions to ensure smooth running of the overall HR offering and delivery.
  • Supporting of local management, if not supported by dedicated Business HR
  • Monthly reporting to different functions / departments

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • B.S degree in HR, management, industrial engineering, or any other related degree.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure & commit with several projects / assignments’ deadlines.
  • Strong presentation skills & able to handle multi countries scopes with teams in different countries & multi cultures.
  • Proven years of experience (7-13 years) in HR operations in Japan region such as & not limited to the following activities:
  1. Strong practice in running Payroll & familiar with HR software.
  2. Recruiting & selection
  3. Training & development, succession planning
  4. Compensation & benefits, rewarding strategy.
  5. Wellbeing & employee’s engagement.
  • Having knowledge of the local country labour law & able to align it with Wartsila policy.
  • The role is responsible for Japan with approx. 200 head-count; and likely to increase further
  • Flexible with travelling frequently to many countries in the region.

You will shine in this role when you have: 

 

  • Solid understanding & experience of leading and managing full-cycle recruitment campaigns for all levels of positions - both volume and specialist for technical roles.
  • Strong interviewing experience and an understanding of diverse candidate assessment methodologies.
  • Highly resourceful, self-driven with the ability to develop strong relationships quickly and often virtually as well as partnering with business stakeholders, vendors, and candidates.
  • Ability to report and track recruiting related data for Japan to support business decisions
  • Excellent spoken and written Japanese & English skills.
