Workshop Engineer - Technical Coordination

Upon joining the company, the Workshop Engineer - Technical Coordination will be assigned to the workshop at the Kobe office. The role is designed to progress from technical coordination to broader workshop supervision and management, subject to performance and business needs.

Job responsibilities include creating daily work schedules, preparing meeting materials and reports, handling orders via email and phone, subcontracting work to external partners, customer communications, following up on instructions from supervisors, preparation of tools and planning and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

In addition, the role involves logistics tasks such as arranging truck charters, coordinating warehouse transfers, and handling export-related operations.

 

Your main responsibilities are

  • Lead and coordinate daily workshop activities, ensuring safe, high-quality, and timely execution of work in line with Wartsila standards.
  • Provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting assistance, and operational guidance to workshop personnel.
  • Plan work schedules, manage equipment availability, monitor inventory, and optimize resource allocation to meet delivery commitments.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, internal processes, and quality requirements.
  • Support training, skill development, and knowledge sharing within the workshop team.
  • Coordinate with logistics, procurement, service, and other internal units to support overall service delivery.
  • Ensure proper calibration, availability, and preparation of workshop tools and equipment for workshop and field service jobs.

  • Hands-on workshop leadership with strong operational discipline
  • Practical technical understanding of marine power systems and workshop processes
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities and drive small-scale operational changes
  • Clear communication with technicians, supervisors, and external partners

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for business environments
  • Native-level Japanese skills and English proficiency at the TOEIC 500 level are preferred
  • (English is used daily, both internally and externally, and work reports are written in English)
  • Process control and labor management experience would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of diesel and gas engines and mechanical engineering would be an advantage
  • Certification in slinging, overhead crane, and forklift operation would be an advantage
